Well the title covers it pretty well.

With SWMBO on the warpath big time and under orders to consolidate all the train gear into the smallest number of boxes I found these 2 little items under the bottom flaps of a old box about to go in the recycling bin. Thank god I decided to cut it up and didn't just squash it flat like I normally do.

I know I've seen them on something before but for the life of me I can not figure out what. At first glance I thought the missing lantern covers from a couple of my double slips but soon discounted that idea.

Anyone have any idea what they are off ?

Just remember folks to ALWAYS check under the flaps and the sticky/packing tape on any of your old boxes before you trash them or give them away..... you never know what you'll find. Starting to wonder what else I've lost in a similar way in the last few years.

Thanks Åke ThumpUp,

Now that you mention it I do recall them from the lighted buffers.

Must be from something else though as I don't have any M track buffers or lighted C buffers.

I have 2 goods vans with EOT lights but I have checked both of them and they are intact and look a bit different as well.

It has me stumped, I didn't think to check the writing/labels on the box to try and work out what was originally in it and the recycling bin was emptied yesterday.

Thanks for that.

Looks very similar but I don't have any lighted buffers so I still can't figure out where they came from let alone what they came off.

Guess they will just have to go into the spare parts box and hope one day I find what they came off.......... that's if I remember Blushing .

If not lantern end blocks, how about the block signal, I think it is 7042? I have never seen one, so this is a long shot guess.
Might it be, Shamu, that you have such a wealth of Marklin that you do not recall your early days when you had the 7191 buffer block with lantern? I make the suggestion from personal experience with a very modest collection, as age takes its toll on the memory functions.

Cheers Tom in Oz

Still have your #'s in the mobile...... in case I call the home phone better PM me the little woman's name, I forgot, memory like a sieve....... can't keep calling her missus Tom.

But how much track to you have laid so far, if I bring my Long Henry + extra wagons its 4.4m long, then throw yours in ???????????.......... wonder if its possible to triple head the loco's if I bring my spare 44 as well ?

I'd wager as large beer at your place in QLD sometime Shane, Wink that they are K track buffer beam Lanterns

Twas elementary, my dear Watson.

There are not many places such a sign would be used in the Märklin realm. Besides, the piece did look vaguely familiar to me, I knew I had seen it.

A little google search, and the image popped up. It's an old K buffer block lantern, probably from the first version. The later ones look somewhat different.

That's one of the problems with having a pornographic memory (yes, I mean pornographic, I remember all kinds of useless stuff), I remember all kinds of useless things, but many times have to work to identify them. The bad thing is remembering telephone numbers from thirty and forty years ago, but having no clue who they belonged to.

Well guys, I thank you all for your input and VERY sensible thoughts as to what the mystery part/s are.

Only trouble is that I have never had or owned buffers with lanterns of any sort.

It was not a recycled/reused box but a packing box from one of my suppliers so the chance of them being left in the box before it was sent to me are bordering on nil. Just wished I'd paid attention to who it came from before I trashed it, might have at least given me a clue.

I'll see if Tom has some of the lighted buffers when I visit him and compare them with these ones.

Thanks again to all of you. ThumpUp

I think the later ones are the same as the C track ones fitted to the 24991 track piece. It would make sense for them to rationalize production that way.
