Hi all,

let's assume that I want to make a double heading with two same Märklin-locos. One has a mfx-decoder and the other a mfx+-decoder. Could I use the mfx+ layout then for both locos? (With the CS2, of course.)
And if the two same locos have the same motor, can I use the same values of the cvs for the mfx-decoder and the mfx+-decoder?

I'm looking forward to helpful answers
kind regards

Robert

Hi,
Double-heading is for me, a matter of trial and error.

I put both locos on the track a couple about 20cm apart, then use CS controller for each, and see how well the speed matches.
Adjust the controller for one, until it matches the other, then couple together.
You can then double head them using two control knobs.

If you want to consist them, so both are on the same controller, do the same test regards speed match.
Then you may have to change the speed values for one loco, in the CS, to match.

regards
Kimball

Robert,

If you are referring to using the CS2s "M.U.Set" mode to configure a consist, then the answer is currently no.

The resultant "master" reference of the M.U.Set that you use to drive the locomotives, does not inherent the mfx+ settings and therefore the CabMode option is not available

It is very easy if you use computer control like WinDigiPet, because you "profile" your locos to create a speed curve (or line in the case of two of mine) that WinDigiPet uses to set the decoder to a particular speed. Over the holidays I will a videoing my party trick of running two locos around my layout at exactly 1cm apart.. its a hoot..

Of course, there are provisos about how well this works. Using a brand new loco and a Delta with a half-seized engine is not going to work well at all! Laugh

This is a little off-topic, but I have an easy solution to run two of my SBB Crocodiles double heading... Only one has it's SDS motor installed BigGrin . Other one runs very easily behind loco with motor just rolling on the track. All functions can still be controlled. My Finnish Märklin dealer offered me this 39563 Crocodile without SDS motor. With original box and instructions etc. for only 50 euro! It looks still great on track and in display cabinet.

I have used M.U.Set with my digital sound wagons for diesels and steam locos. Good way to buy a loco without sounds or just one sound and add one of these wagons to get 10-15 sounds.

Janne
Märklin H0 digital layout. I have analog and digital H0 Collection. Rolling stock mostly from era I, II, III and IV. Märklin 1 gauge beginner.

I presume M U means Multiple Unit in this case.

"Mehrfachtraktion" in German. Menu item "Neue Traktion anlegen" in the German CS2 UI.
