What a lovely gift - it all looks brand new. I don't think I've seen the 0330 layout book with white pages before!

What a pleasant gift! I would build an oldtimer layout as those items remind me somewhat of the locos and waggons I had as a child.

A nice present , all look to be in very good condition including the boxes , in the bottom photo there is a green box at bottom right with 3106 printed on the top does it have a black end tab on it or my eyes are playing up ? I have never seen a tab this colour before .

Cheers Tom in Oz

Hi Tom

I think it is 5106 and yes it has a black end.

I have seen this before on a few track boxes. Has anyone an explanation as to why?

Ooohh, I especially love the 4029 in such great condition... Had one of these in the 60's... Unfortunately given away in the early 90's....

Nice to see. When I started up again with Marklin not too long ago, I found I had the same 330 layout book as a kid. I looked through a few more scanned ones and settled on acquiring all the parts and pieces needed for every layout in the 351 book (well, no crane yet) as this would let me assemble most any of the classic layouts on a 6' x 10' board. Lots of good ideas. My brother and I have a history of dragging the stuff out during holidays many years ago and building a crazy 'tischbahn' on a ping pong table (9' x 5') to see how many trains we could keep going at once.

From my point of view, I get the old stuff to use it and have fun. You should do the same. Keep the boxes and pamphlets so you can reassemble if you decide to part with some of it. My 2 cents worth.

hello antonios; NEVER use electrical contact cleaner....period! it will remove paint, it will melt plastic, it will ruin your day. the body shells may only need soapy water and a soft brush. the motors/wheels may only need gentile solvent and lubrication. i'm sure other forum members have suggestions on the best way to "wash an old lok". mike

You can use soap and water only for the shells, for the rest you can remove the dust with a soft brush. The levers are for reversing the locos, you can find them only in old models. You cannot run the locos with digital controllers, you gonna need an analog one.Search on ebay.de,they are cheap and easy to find.

Very nice. I have a 3000 with a lever that I think was a birthday gift from my uncle when I was a kid. I wish I had friends like you to give me their old märklin. :)

From experience of old Marklin all they're likely to need is a few drops of oil. Put one on each motor bearing (there may be small felt pads above the bearings, in which case soak those with oil), and one on each axle and gear shaft. Check the motor will turn by hand and then try it with power.

Anything rusty should be treated with WD-40 and an old toothbrush, if you don't want to strip and repaint it. You can remove the smoke deflectors from the Br.23 with a small screwdriver (assuming they're mounted like the ones on the F800 Br.01) which will make it easier to clean behind them and also treat the rust on them.
