I've searched all the forums, but no luck. Is there a place where I can find the year Märklin first offered a particular model? Back to about 1972.

Thanks,
Tom

Koll's is your best bet.. Many members, including me, have copies of the books. So ask your question here.

There is a website by Helmut F Kern, http://www.hfkern.gmxhome.de that is a pretty good reference.
You can then select Maerklin and then loks or cars to access a pretty complete list of models including years of production.
The list may not be fully up to date as I am not certain it has been maintained since 2005.

Loks: http://www.bahn.hfkern.de/Maerklin/Menue.html
Cars: http://www.bahn.hfkern.d...aerklin_Wagen/Menue.html

BTW, which model are you trying to research?

Thank you, Adrian and Mike for the helpful answers. Mike, I'm interested in the year for the 2670 set which is the Swedish wood sided electric lok; then, the 5749, a gauge one BR 38; and finally the 5700, a gauge one BR 89.

I also would <love> to know the ebb and flow of Märklin gauge 1. Apparently, they ceased manufacture of it for a long time, then brought it back in 1975 or so.

Thanks again,
Tom

The 2870 was first produced in 1988, but there was a change to the set in 1989 to remove the mailboxes from the postal wagon..

2870.1 1988
2870.2 1989

I can't help with the 1 Gauge stuff as Koll's only does 00/H0..

Thanks, Adrian. Interesting, I thought introduction was bit earlier than that for the 2870. BTW- do you know if it's true that the sets with the yellow mailboxex
on the postal wagon have a higher value?

Regards,
Tom

PS: Anyone who has ever held one of these beauties in his hand, looking at its filigree and individually applied wooden boards, well they'll be amazed.

According to the latest Koll's guide the 2870.1 is valued at 360 Euro, while the 2870.2 is valued at 290 Euro. Those prices are a guide only - the better guide of price is eBay.

My understanding was that the sets with the yellow post boxes were special versions for the Swedish market only. Hence they were not that generally available, and harder to get hold of. They were probably also produced in lower numbers as they were expected to be exported to a specific country, so the rarity value may be true.

On the other hand this may be all false information to try and raise the value of the ones with the yellow post boxes ... Blink
