Maybe it's just another Google detonation: 39550 is in stock at Märklin, don't panic. The other variations have not yet been available.
No bay G 5/5 sold out at the factory as far as I can tell.

Hi all,

It is not just available, many pictures are already appearing online, including those - very good ones - at Haertle. (Note: I am not associated to this seller in any way, just pointing out their great pictures... ;) )

Cheers,

Wot is "The model" here?
Märklin announced four H0 models of the bay G 5/5. One out of four is in stock at Märklin and already appeared in the shops - three ain't been seen yet.

I guess some folks took your first post to mean the bay G 5/5 is sold out.

My G5/5 arrived. Just did small test run yesterday night. First impressions are very good indeed. Superb detail with corresponding great look.
The running is very smooth too. Smoother only with brushless motors like the SDS. Didn't test it yet in grades, but in horizontal the slow speed runninng characteristics are excellent.

Although the loco doesn't have lots of pipes (and I tend to like those), it is amazing. I really like the model in itself.

I will run it beside my BR96s/Gt 2x4/4 and also, but not so important some Bayern Ep. IIa of my locos roster.
I like the 46803 coal wagons and ordered it to extend my set of 5 wagons of the same type.

I need to find a picture for the CS2 representing the G5/5. Probably I will use the Märklin site one converted to PNG with the correct characteristics. I think Märklin should immediately make available a picture for a loco as soon as the loco starts to be available. I don't understand why this doesn't happen and I hope it soon will be current practice.

I will take some photos of it soon. Off course it is not different from any other 39550 but it I think it is always fun to see and show more pictures of locos. I will use the cloudy sky scenario :)

Last year I bought some diesels and electric locos, but except for the crocs, I feel steamers are what I really like.

There are off course somethigns I don't like in it, the worst being the price: I think it is too much for a loco (even if superb detailed) without interior cabin light and without Telex couplers. I also don't understand why in the second decade of the 21st century some new locos (not starup series) don't have cabin light. The led in itself is very easy although I understadn in steamers it maybe more difficult to feed the leds then in diesels or electrics.
Also I would prefer the cabin was in metal and (but that would justify a litle higher price) synchronised steam even if only from the top of the boiler (and not from the cyllinders). Despite this, it is superb and I am very happy with it.
Best regards,
Miguel

Great photos, Alberto! ThumpUp

It looks nicer than I imagined from the catalogue photos. Although I've stretched my budget with the 37015 S2/6 already this year I might go for one of these. Perhaps the version without sound might be a wise choice!

You can see some photos of my G5/5 and also my P3/5h. They are similar, off course with a different wheel arrangement, but the boilers and cabin are really similar (boilers have different sizes). The tender seems to be the same and you can see that the tender doors of the Märklin model are in a different place than the Brawa ones :)

Use the link below to see the photos, and off course, feel free to download.
The letters in the tender are yellow in the Brawa and golden (or maybe a lighter yellow) in the Märklin.
I like more the Märklin lights, except off course teh interior cabin light!

(the photos are not so good as Alberto's ones but I think it is still good for comarison with the P3/5h)

Thank you for the pictures Alberto!
It is a very nice loco. But I wish they would use metal-railings instead of these plastic ones. I think Märklin has produced some very nice looking steamers during the last five years or so, but I don't like the quality of the plastics they use.
But the photos are first class. ThumpUp

The first three are Brawa (the best, but very delicate) the two grey are Fleischmann.

I think in general the plastics Märklin use are very good. This doesn't mean that one or other plastic part has characteristics that rises some doubts to me.
Bad plastic is what we can see in some small parts, like buffers of Ep. I wagons, of a well known modell train brand that starts by B.

Maybe I was generalising a bit too much. If forced to choose between brittle plastic parts or bent boiler pipes I would of course choose the latter one. But looking at my Märklin models I do prefer the boiler pipes on my older models. They are straight and still not brittle. When it comes to hand railings I definitely prefer metal ones.

/Torbjörn

Edit; I'm talking steamers in general. The boiler pipes on this model looks fine. But the hand rails don't.

Torbjörn,
Like you I also prefer the handrails in metal. Relative to boiler pipes in a way I prefe rmetal ones but they tend to be more subject to rust (I had 2 locos that got a few rust in the metal boiler pipes and it needed maintenance), so if they are in good plastic it is ok.
When you talk about the boiler pipes in old steam locos I think you are talking about the ones that are casted in the boiler and those ones, although exremely robust, don't look so good, so I don't like them.
Best regards,
Miguel
