Interesting clip of a still operational 2 axle Diesel in the Rotterdam port area, also some NS 1600 electric loco's waiting for the slaughterhouse.
The 1607 is also there,in 1989 she pulled the longest passenger train in the world, total 60 intercity coaches.
Marklin issued a special version with a coach set to go with it.
I would have kept her for the railwaymuseum......

I have the coach pack, and am keeping my eyes open for the matching version of 1607 with the lettering.

It seems a major oversight for the real loco not to have been saved, given its place in railway history. Are any 1600s to be preserved?

Negative,i do not think any of the 1600 series will be saved.
The 1700 and 1800 series are almost identical on the outside and these are also on the list to be scrapped, hopefully one of them will go to our national railwaymuseum at Utrecht.

About the Marklin loco: Marklin issued several versions of the 1607,make sure you buy the one with the special lettering "Ik trok de langste trein" etc.
Please also make sure that all the white isolators on the roof are still present, these are not glued in but simply pushed in,it took me some time to order some spare ones in Germany.
