I noticed that only on the curved turnouts, esp where 2 curved turnouts are joined together, my newly acquired Kittel shorts out on the turnoutAngry
I pasted a narrow (2mm width) strip of masking tape on each side of the slider, about 43mm long, and the shorting is goneBigGrin
I assume the slider is touching the rail on the curved turnout, causing a short?? But would have thought M should be aware of this...or are my curve turnouts faulty....Huh ...maybe this is why so many folk on the forum don't like curve turnouts?!?!Crying
Any thoughts....?? And to all, a GREAT 2015Love
Joe

Happy New Year 2015!

Is this Kittel the only loco which makes short outs on your curved turnouts? I have only three curved turnouts and all of them are located on the lower level of my layout. None of them are located next to each other so I can't do a similar test on my layout with my DRG Kittel. Could this Kittel have a different slider installed? I haven't seen Roco silent slider, but maybe it's different enough compared to the original one to make some difference? Who knows? I'm happy you solved already this problem by using masking tape.

The only problems I have had with curved turnouts are derailment of some locos and wagons. I had previously some short out problems with my wide radius turnouts 24611 and 24612, when used with older rolling stock wheels. I solved this problem by insulating the sides of some of those pukos closest to the rails with nail polish.

All the best to you for 2015!

Regards,
Janne

Hi Joe,

I have a Kittel and it runs fine through all my curved turnouts. The slider looks like yours too. Maybe there are different tolerances on some turnouts?

thanks Ray - possibly because I have 2 curved turnouts "back to back". Its only on that particular curved turnouts set up that it shorts, as do some of my boxcars, the ones fitted with slider and lights. I also did the masking tape trick on them, and all is fine now when going over that area....

Hi,
I can confirm Joe's experience, with my own 37258. His solution works fine.

I will do some further research and keep you informed.

regards
Kimball
