Beautiful Sunday, sun is shining, it's about 24 C, last day of winter (31/08/2014), spring about to spring, and where we????

Inside, of course, playing with trains, what elseThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp

First away the two locos done by TootToot which had some problems, now finally back and ready to go.

First the blue Dutch electric. Placed on the track, started well, got around the first bend, in the straight, going great guns, then all of a sudden, the jerkiness comes backCursing Cursing Cursing . Taken off, nearly ends up against the wall, when our Märklin specialist, Curt, says, let me have a look.

Now this loco I purchased from him about ten years ago. Originally it was a HAMO, Curt converted it back to AC analogue, and all was well until it got converted to digital. Curt worked his magic, and off it went, singing alongThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp .

What did he do you ask, well first he cleaned the wheels, then he remembered, that being a DC originally, the pick up came from the one side from the wheels of the loco, so he turned the non motorised wheels around, so that now both sides could be used, and it purred alongThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp

Next came 3151, Ae 3/6 II SBB, again back from TootToot and this one no problems what so ever, whoooWoot Woot Woot

Next on the list, Helmut's BR 94 (the cheaper versionSad .....no soundSad )

Now we go over to the old club layout (as it is analogue) and give the 3025 a run. I did ask Curt if it was OK as it was very noisy, and he replied yup, all's well.

Now it was Bob's turn, the all mighty Lollo, pulling a special truck contingent

Back to electric loco, the BR E 75 delta

Continuing with the electric locos, the BR E 44 delta

The BR (DR) 143

And the last electric the new E 93

Now for some diesels, first the DSB train set 28524 with additional carriages from Märklin ROCO and Lima

The latest Schienebus, the VT 95.9

and to finish off with a couple of steamers, first the BR 73

and lastly the BR 44 delta

More to come later.

One our members, Bob, gave consent ThumpUp to have our Christmas break up meeting at his place, where we had a chance to run some of our trains on his partial completed layoutLove .

There's still some scenery work to be done, but it's a great layoutDrool , and it was great time eating, drinking, gabbing and running trains.

The Glastkasten got a bit of a run first and I tried to keep the camera as much as possible on the layout.

Then Alistair's Brawa Railcar Reihe 4024 ÖBB Linz a bit of a run.

The layout is a double track and has so many twists and turns that at times it is hard to keep up with the locos.

Enjoy the videos and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all forum members, and hopefully Father Christmas will bring you all you have wished for...........and if not, maybe you can buy it yourselfLaugh LOL BigGrin Blink Smile ThumpUp

Well it's back to Friday night club meetings, although the first one for the year didn't have such a great turn-out, I think it had something to do with 41C temp outside.

First a run by the Märklin 36883 "Glaskasten" or to give its' full title Märklin 36883 Bayerische Lokalbahnlok PtL 2/2 als Baureihe 98.3 "Glaskasten" der DB. Epoche III, Here you can see it in better light then when it was run at Bob's Christmas meeting

Next we swopped the layout to analogue running (unplug wires from CS2, plug into grey transformer).

Roco 43985 Blue BR 181.2 Pulling a rake of ROCO Benelux hopper cars

Then another ROCO, 43924 Green BR 150, pulling a mixture of ROCO old style brown freight wagons (and a few other colours thrown in as wellLaugh )

Then to an old favorite Märklin 3124 Red Railbus Micheline

Then back to digital with Pete's Märklin 3016 Schienenbus + two carriages, where we managed to work out that the decoder was of DCC type manufacture, and registered very easily

And finally we finished with Helmut's 'Museum' train, a Piko 59360 BR 118 DR with some old style coaches - thus 'Museum'BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Next up is the Märklin 3312 KWSt.E T5 with an Uhlenbrock chip pulling the latest Märklin 48775 Zötler bier, 44212 Aktien Zwik'l and 46049 track cleaning car' along with some old beer cars

This is the Märklin 3425 Delta DW 8 Kittel. Got an email from a gentleman in Western Australia asking whether I woud be interested in the Kittel. He bought it quite a few years ago, as he was collecting trams (DC/two rail) and the Kittel struck him as different type to add to his collection. He stated he knew it was Märklin and that it was AC - three rail, and that he had no track or transformer, but he still went ahead and bought it. Well it's been storage and he decided to get rid of it and was wondering if I would be interested, cost would be postageScared Scared Scared Drool Drool Drool . Of course I was interested and would be glad to pay postage, just email the cost when he sent it. The email came back - postage was small - he had enough stamps to cover it, so I got it for free.

Additional (two) Silverfisch added, thus negating the push/pull system. Couldn't put them anywhere else due to the special (weird) coupling system....anyway, we liked it

Long time between drinksBigGrin BigGrin

Here's a few videos of some of the club member's locos on our temporary layout.

Our club layout consists of 600mm x 600mm modules bolted together, forming a kind of weird, in and out over an 8m x 5.2m area.

Eventually what you see will be replaced.

We had to shelve the modular layout other wise we would never have built a proper club layout.

First videos are of our last Christmas show.

We joined Dale's old M track with some new C track, and of course problems had to occur. Cursing Cursing Eventually they were sorted.ThumpUp ThumpUp

Then in the first meeting of the year, we changed the track around into a basic (?) Confused Confused Confused figure 8 and Alistair being the guinea pigBigGrin ThumpUp

Here's a few photos of the 'new' temporary layout

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

In between meetings I ran my two RTS BR 221's.

The first is the Märklin 37822 pulling the beer car sets 48778 and 48779

The second is my existing ROCO 68594

Why the headlights are flashing is still to be determined

We had another meeting last Sunday (finally after a spate of public holidays and other happenings).

Couple of members tried to run their locos but had problems with loco and CS2 connection (basically we spat the dummyCursing Cursing )

Trevor got to run his 'Prussian P8' - 37028 along with the corresponding carriages - 42041.

Next lot should be from the forthcoming AMRE Exhibition in the June long weekend (11-13)

Enjoy.

One of our members purchased one of the last TGV Lyria (37792) sets earlier this year only to have the decoder fry itself on first running.

He contacted the supplier and was advised to send the unit to the Märklin factory for repair.

Which he did and then waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. He was hoping to get it back in time for the AMRE exhibition coming up in middle of June.

On many occasions he tried to contact the dealer with email and phone but with no success.

I then advised him to contact Märklin themselves and explain his predicament and see what the factory could do.

So he did, explained the problem and received the repaired unit last week via express mail at the factory's cost. Oh, he also eventually got his postage to the factory refunded by the dealer.

So off course he had to give it a run, with the extra carriages as well.

And here it is

But, it looks as though it could still have problems. In the first test run going at a reasonable speed it did well. It was then stopped for a while. The member asked me to video it, so we started at a reasonable speed, and it started slowing down every two metres, then speeding up. Yet when put on full speed it performed as it should.

Methinks there could still be some problemsCrying Crying

The second video is a Bemo VT 24601-680.

Next lot of videos should be coming from the AMRE exhibition, stay tuned.

I could watch it fine, no problem.

Decent size layout, takes a train a reasonable length of time to do a lap. Should look great when all sceniced up guys.

Roco Vectron Triple Header

Had a chance to run three Roco BR 193's as a triple header over the weekend.

The 'Triple' consisted of Roco 79977 Br 193 773 - '150 Jahre Brennereisenbahn (Lokomotion), 79979 BR 193 640 MRCE - Connected by Rail and 79922 BR 193 772 - Lokomotion.

Pulling 28 various 'tankers' all Märklin, all eras.

Now doing the Essess

Just for something different....no loco running......but, showing the stage 1 layout that we have achieved so far.

The first video is from last December when we finally got stage 1 completed so that we could run trains at our Christmas party.

It shows cab view heading west.

After running into much derailment and many locos and wagons coming off (all the way to the floorCursing Cursing ) due to not getting the correct C track parallel geometry. Scarm and WinTRack were used to design stage 1 (as WinTrack had the ability to connect geometrically tracks when the problem arose of not being able to work out what track pieces were require), so I went back to the drawing board and managed between tthe two designs to finally achieve 95% parallel geometry, as can be seen on the next video.

Showing cab view going the same way as previously

You may also notice the walls of our club rooms aren't as bare as last year.

I had seen so many videos of German clubs and their walls full of DB signals (all most probably gotten from wrecking yards) I thought why can't we do the same.

So I tried to Google DB signal dimensions and got absolutely nowhere. Out came the steel ruler and I measured the signals from my old Märklin analogue signals and multiplied everything by 87. If it looked a bit big, I would round off the nearest 50 mm.

And, voila, semaphore, home, yard and rail crossing signs appear on our walls......very proud of thatThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp

If you're interested, here's the before and after videos of going east.

Had a chance to have a V200/BR221 running morning at the club, and took along a Roco, Piko and the latest Märklin 37806 V 200 052

Had only one derailment for the whole morning, so went home very happy.

First up the Roco 68849 BR 221 136-5 ImoTrans pulling a mixture of Roco and Märklin telescoping cover cars.

Next up the Piko 52605 BR 221 137-3 in Turquoise and Cream colours pulling a mixture of Roco and Märklin plastic passenger coaches

And finally the new Märklin 37806 V 200 052 pulling a mixture of long and standard Märklin passenger coaches.

Someone was complaining about the pulling/pushing power the new V 200 had, so I was a bit wary whether it could pull the nine coaches, especially on our steepest grade, 3.5%.

No problems at all (it comes close to the end of the video). Didn't try the pushing exercise.

That other member must have got a 'Monday' or 'Friday' modelBigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Hopefully I got all the locos running at correct speedsThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp

Enjoy.

I like it too. Only now I saw your (old) post of the S2/6 also climbing easily (even if with not many coaches) and liked it a lot.
It is obvious that the new Märklin locomotives when running in a good well laid track are good pullers.
This is also a confirmation that C track is a great track!

The new club layout looks fantastic. A lot of effort has gone into the framing underneath. There are plenty of long stretches to enjoy the long consists that you're running. Looking forward to see further progress,

I totally agree with John (I think).

Those who over-oil their locos will find trouble with traction on their layouts. It happened to me accidentally when I put more oil on a loco than I intended. I had such trouble with locos slipping on the tracks that I ended up having to clean the whole layout with solvent to get rid of the grease on the rails.

On the last occasion that it happened to me I found that the S2/6 was indeed the worst loco, and wouldn't even move when coupled to its train of four coaches. Once the tracks were clean the S2/6 had no trouble at all once again.

Last meeting for 2018 and we go into a break until February 2019(no air con in the club)

The Märklin 36180 Vectron BR 193 HectorRail began pulling the old Roco vam compost wagons andd half way through the video (with the magic of ChristmasBigGrin BigGrin BigGrin ) another 7 vtg oil cars were added.

We finally got Dale's locos (anyway most of them) registered on the club's CS2 and Alistair finally got a chance to run his 'Prussians' with a new set of Fleischmann KPEV passenger coaches.

So the next video shows Märklin 37939 P10 and Fleischmann 391773 S10.1 with Fleischmann coaches 568004, 568901, 568603, 56804 and 568601

Our club rooms are shared with another club, the Classic Train Collectors with mainly O scale electric and wind up locos.

They also had their last meeting of 2018 and ran these locos (they firmly believe in 'Scalextric' runningBigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin )

You'll also notice a rail car, which is hand built of the old SA Railways Red Hen, they were the main rail car used for suburban travel in Adelaide for many, many years.

Have a very joyous festive season and until 2019 remember, if Father Christmas doesn't bring you what you requested...............go and buy it yourselfLOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
