When your motor starts to fail after the soft brushes and lubricant begins to short the commutator segments, you might be able to save it.

Squirt a bunch of this into a coffee mug. It, or similar, can also be found in 1 gallon cans.

Now run the motor for a few minutes. You will begin to see the junk start to settle to the bottom of the mug. See it on the right side of the mug? Yes, the can states the product is highly flammable. So be sure the motor is completely covered in the solvent and then turn on the power. Turn the power off too before you remove the motor. This keeps the sparking brushes away from O2 so it will not ignite.

Do this at your own risk. It works fine for me. Your results may vary.

But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.
