Greetings all,

Just bought the Marklin 34112,series DRG 18.1,cabinnumber 18 137,olympic rings on the tenderwalls.
Olympic rings must refer to the Olympic games in Muenich in 1936.

Whilst i know these loco's were used for express trains,i would like to combine with a string of DRG Donnerbueschen, two axle regional coaches.
I wonder whether this combination was ever used in real life?
If not,i could still buy Marklin 33081 BR 85 in DRG version, right?

Views appreciated.

Paul.

Thanks Steven,

It would seem these loco's pulled mainly 4 axle coaches but from the pictures i see they also pulled two axle and 3 axle coaches,so i think i am safe.

Hi Paul

I have my 34112 pulling the Rhinegold set of coach's 4228. I think that set is based on 1928? so 6-8 years different to the loco, but they do look good together.

Hi Paul,

My experience is that, however unlikely it may seem, sooner or later you will find a photo of the prototype with whatever train you want your loco to pull!

It's our miniature world, and if in your world the Br18.1 pulled thunderboxes then it should not matter what it really pulled in real life. Having said that there does seem to be documentary evidence in the form of some of those photos showing a Br18.1 with some four wheel coaches, so maybe it's not so unusual after all.

I run my 34112 with a train of skirted DRG coaches; the ones with the eagle logo. The combination looks great, in my opinion.

SNAFU (Situation Normal otherwise All F....d Up):

Your Rheingold coach set 4228 is SCREAMING for a Marklin 3318 or 3618 S3/6 Rheingold steamer!
As a matter of fact i sold both items last week in favour of other steamers and tinplate USA boxcars, call me stupid if you wish.

The 34112 is wearing the Olympic rings of 1936,it is very likely that she pulled prestige express trains in 1936.
In my fantasy, she could have been downgraded to more modest tasks between 1937 and 1945,pulling everything there was to be pulled,Olympic rings fading away during the harsh years of war.
Perhaps some of the series even made it to operations after 1945,where each and every form of traction was used in a destructed land.
I will let her pull my string of 6 DRG Donnerbueschen, happy as Larry.
