This is a topic which comes up occasionally, but I believe the last time was over two years ago, so it's time for an update. I would like to know how many locomotives you own, including self powered railcars and railbuses.

If you want to give more information, such as how many are Marklin, how many are digital, etc, that's up to you.

I have at this moment 128 locomotives, of which:

45 are steam
49 are electric
27 are diesel (one to arrive in november)
7 are railcars (2 steam, 1 battery electric, 4 internal combustion)

Of these only four are still analogue.

That's a lot of locomotives, Ray.
Given your description of your Gibraltar situation, where do you put them all ? !!!

Most of my locos sit in drawers under my layout, with the empty boxes stacked neatly behind the drawer units. I also have a shelf in my box room where I store a lot of my wagons and coaches.

I am getting to the point where I'm struggling to find room for any new purchases, so I'm considering restricting myself to one or two new locos a year as from 2015.

The alternative is to sell some of my collection. If I do I'll probably start by getting rid of my non-Marklin locos, but I will only do this if I can't keep my new purchases under control.

Hi guys, At the moment I have 28 steam-----7 electric-----4 diesel ---all Marklin. Trying to trace another 2 steam which were due last week and seem to be "lost" somewhere between UK and Ireland. Also 2 electric will be here around Christmas time. Not nearly as many as Ray F but they keep me out of trouble. Take care EddieCool Cool

Humm, will have to keep a close eye on this thread....... might get SWMBO off my back.

I have 52 I think at last count with a couple in transit. Will list them tomorrow, beddie-by time here.

Night all.
Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under .

Hi all,

I have at the moment 188 H0 1:87 locomotives. Only four are not Märklin. Märklin don't produce these SBB models, so I bough them because of this.

These non Märklin ones are:

Analog 3-rail AC Lima DB ET 430 electric railcar
Analog 3-rail AC Liliput SBB Ae 4/7 electric locomotive
Digital 3-rail AC Liliput SBB A3/5-700 steam locomotive
Digital 3-rail AC Roco SBB C5/6 steam locomotive

Here is a list of all my H0 scale locomotives:

1 Steam railcar: German Märklin 34251 DRG "Kittel"

6 Diesel railcars: Märklin 2 x 3016 DB Rail Bus and one 4018 second unit, 2 x 3028 DB BR 515 and one 4028 second unit, 3077 DRG Rail Zeppelin and 37605 DB VT 11.5

1 Electric railcar: German Lima DB ET 430

81 Steam locomotives and 3 more coming... Too many to list the locos, but by country I have 62 German, 9 French, 3 Austrian, 3 Swiss (Märklin, Liliput and Roco), 2 from Luxembourg, 1 Norwegian and 1 Belgian steam locomotives

46 Diesel locomotives: 36 German, 5 Belgian, 3 Norwegian, 1 from Luxembourg, 1 Italian.

14 Märklin 3021 DB V 200 based locos and 9 are from 1957-1959 Wink
6 Nohabs (Märklin 2 x 3067 SNCB, 3068, 3137 and 3143 NSB, 3134 CFL)
4 based on 3072 DB BR 212 or V 100
11 of 3064/3065 type DB BR 260/261 or V 60 type including 3 SNCB models
5 of DB V 160 or DB BR 216 type
3 of DB BR 221 type or V 200.1 type
Three others are Märklin German 3078, 3088 and Italian 3142 FS

53 Electric locomotives and 1 more coming... Again too many to list them, but here is a list by country: 22 German, 21 Swiss (one of these is Liliput Ae 4/7), 4 Austrian, 2 French, 2 Italian and 2 Swedish.

Most of them are digital or digitalised, but I have still around 70 analog locos. Many of them will stay as analog in the future also. I have also three Märklin 1 gauge 1:32 locos, two digital diesels and one analog steam loco, which are not included in the list above. I think a total number of 200 is about the limit for me as I also want to show trains including rolling stock in my display cases. All except five of my H0 locos are at the moment in the display cases.

Regards,
Janne

Märklin H0 digital layout. I have analog and digital H0 Collection. Rolling stock mostly from era I, II, III and IV. Märklin 1 gauge beginner.

I must admit that I don't have an exact number, but it will be between 110 to 120.

Most of those are Marklin and 98% are digital or in the process of being converted to digital. I have 3 analog locos that will remain analog - in 2 cases (3005 and 3048) I have the 30050 and 30480 digital equivalents. The 3rd analog loco is a SK800.

Non Marklin locos - I have 2 Roco, 1 ESU, 1 Brawa (H0) and 1 KM1 1 Gauge loco.

For a scale breakdown I have

H0 - approx 105
1 Gauge - 6
Z Gauge - 1

I wasn't sure whether to count my 2 ICE' s as electrics or rail cars. I counted them as rail cars because isn't that where you find them in the catalog. I count 56 now, mostly anlog but a handful of delta and digital.

7 Rail cars includes 1x 3070 and 1x 3071 ICE
15 Diesels
24 Steam
10 Electric

2 on way 3080 diesel not because it's a great loco but it's one I had as a kid.
and 37165 steam because it's a gorgeous looking tank loco.

edit Just added a pic. Sorry for reflections

As it turns out I had only updated the spread sheet a few days ago in preparation of packing everything away.

So this is the current state of affairs at the Shamubahn. Over 60% are or have been converted to digital, a huge stockpile of both mSD/mLD await the remainder including the "Delta's" once we have moved.

54 Loco's & 2 Railcars

Fleischmann
BR50 x 2 ThumpUp
BR65 x 1

Marklin
0-6-0 x 1
Bad IVh x 1 Love
BR01 x 1
BR03 x 3
BR03.10 (streamliners) x 3 Love
BR05 x 1
BR12 x 1
BR17 x 1
BR18.1 x 1
BR18.3 x 1 Love
BR18.4 x 2
BR185.2 x 1
BR23 x 1
BR24 x 1
BR38 x 3
BR42.90 x 1
BR44 x 2 (1 in transit) Love
BR45 x 1
BR50 x 3 ThumpUp
BR53 x 1 Love
BR74 x 1
BR81 x 5
BR86 x 3 (1 in transit)
BR94.5 x 1 Love
BR96 x 1 ThumpUp
F7 x 1
S3/6 x 2 Love
V32 x 1 Confused
V60/260 x 2 (1 in transit)

Piko
BR01.1 x 1 (a real beauty but never seen so much plastic)

Roco
BR12 x 1

Rivarossi
BR96 x 2 Love

(Railcars)

Marklin VT 08.5 "Roland" x 1 Love
Liliput VT 137 & VS 145 DRG Railcars x 1

With the exception of a few items currently in transit from Nev and Keesmarklin that is going to remain the state of affairs for at least the next 12 months.

Although I am led to believe that the kids have arraigned for a "05" under the Xmas tree Love

My collection stopped growing a couple of years ago. I think I own 41 locomotives.
Of these, 5 are not M. (3 Roco, 1 Electrotren, 1 Navemo)
I dont keep anything in boxes; All are actively working on the layout.

More than 50% are analog, with the rest being Delta/Digital. (My layout is analog)
(Some has had their electronics ripped out, and thus converted to analogue!)

Most of them are for DB epoc IIIa.

Fully dieselized, but how to count multiple-unit US locos? By pick-up shoe, thus ignoring dummy booster units? By units? By more or less permanent lash-up?

Alternative 1) Pick-up shoes: 9

Alternative 2) Headcount:

10 x EMD F7A (1 dummy)
8 x EMD F7B (7 dummies)
2 x Alco PA (double unit)

20

plus 1 x M* Alco PA & 1 x Athearn Alco PB in the pipeline

Alternative 3) Consists (subject to change without prior notice):

3 x EMD F7 ABBA
1 x EMD F7 ABA
1 x EMD F7 AB
1 x EMD F7A
1 x Alco PA AA double unit

7

plus 1 x Alco PA AB double unit in the pipeline

;-)

My current total is 99. I guess I need one more to break into triple digits. They are broken down as follows

Marklin 81

16 Diesels
19 Electric
46 Steam

MTH 16

12 Diesel
1 Electric
3 Steam

Roco 2

1 Electric
1 Steam

I have counted locos if they can run by themselves. For instance, most of my Marklin Diesels pairs are permanently attached, my MTH Diesels are not. I also didn't split out railcars.

And since I have four more MTH Diesels on order due in November, I guess I will shortly be breaking into the triple digits ...

Funnily enough, I have been asked to give a presentation tonight at our Marklin Club monthly meeting on 'Me and my Trains".

So, if you are in the Wellington, NZ area tonight head on to the Marklin Club in Upper Hutt to see some of my trains. Visitors are always welcome.

I knew a German guy here in Brisbane who claimed he had over a thousand. I never counted them but he sure had a hell of a lot. Mostly Marklin but a lot of other makes too. Unfortunately he passed away in early 2011 and I'll never have the pleasure of viewing such an impressive collection again.

Hi David,

When I hover over the "statistics" I get a tooltip come up with the names of all those who voted for that option. Am I the only person who sees this? Is this because I started the topic?

On the 500+ option I can tell you that you were right about one of them, but Ian has so far not voted!

OK, so it's not just me who can see the names of the voters, then. Good!

This is an option that has to be set up when you make a poll. There is a check-box for "display voter's names" or words to that effect.

I have no doubt that some have more overwhelming numbers...

I suspect Stephen and Ian are probably at the 500+ mark. And not surprising, 2 forum members have polled that they have 500+ locos! Wink

I have heard of some MRR enthusiasts with over 1000.

We have some way to go to beat that!

Hi David,

When I hover over the "statistics" I get a tooltip come up with the names of all those who voted for that option. Am I the only person who sees this? Is this because I started the topic?

On the 500+ option I can tell you that you were right about one of them, but Ian has so far not voted!

Looks like you can only see them if you have voted. I haven't voted and can't see them.

Hi all,

David, you're being to kind to me, I would be in the 300+ group.

I consider that not to bad for 5 years of collecting...Smile

Very roughly my collection is split 50/50 between analog and digital Loco's.

All the best.

Ian.

I must admit that I run Firefox with the NoScript plugin. That means that by default all sites are prevented from running Javascript unless you specifically allow them too. Also, secondary sites are blocked by default, and while I have always allowed marklin-users.net, I don't think any of the secondary were allowed, so I did not ever see the names by hovering. If I allow the secondary sites to run scripts, then I can see the names.

Lost count a long time ago, after I made my last inventory when packing my stuff to move from California to SW France.
But I do remember my train boxes occupied 13 m3 in the container, closely followed by 6 m3 of books and 3 m3 of Meccano.

Can you guess how it felt during the 3 month the thing was in transit Panama canal, mid-atlantic during Hurricane season and through the strait of Gibraltar!?Crying
Sorry Ray, I did not tell you about Gibraltar! Laugh

I am busy with an inventory and am am sure that I have more than 200 locos but fewer than 500. The vast majority are Marklin split about 30% analog and the rest digital. There are about 20 HAG locomotives in my collection, also more than 20 Crocodiles as these are my favourites.
Mike
Digital - C track with CS2 and Railroad&Co TrainController; feedback using LocoIO via a Locobuffer
Analog - M track with solid centre rail (after C track layout is complete)
Collect all Eras - especially Crocodiles

I have to admit I never thought anyone would have more than a thousand locomotives!

I'm not sure that it is Nigel, I did have a look at that when I added the extra categories. The only way might be to allow multiple votes in the poll - Ray, are you happy with this?

Edit: It seems the only way to remove a vote from a poll is to perform a direct database edit, which only Juhan can do.
