Hi all,

I have this particular turnout that is giving me some grief. Cursing Cursing

The components are - C track 24672; decoder 74460 and motor 74491.

Here's the problem. If I connect the turnout to the programming track it works - no problem. When I connect it to the layout it only works very occasionally. I've checked the voltage for both programming track and layout with both showing about 14v. I've tested the turnouts located nearby, and some are actually connected to this one, and they all work.

Does someone have any ideas or suggestions?

Regards
Greg

I've done some more investigating and found that the turnout has an insulating tab on the longer arm of the turnout. This tab is for TrainContoller and isolated the s88 in the block. I connected the turnout to the programming track on the arm and the motor didn't work. I then connected the turnout on the common arm and it worked. I removed the tab and connected to the longer arm and it worked. Therefore, the red tab is causing the problem. However, the red tab is required for the s88 contact.

How do I overcome this situation?

Regards
Greg

The obvious thing to do, is to remove the red tab and move it to the next piece of track. I did this and the turnout now works. The only thing I have to do is to adjust the braking length in the block.

I know no-one assisted me, but just being able to mention this on the forum enabled me to think about the problem. Thanks Juhan for the forum. Love Love Love

Hi Greg,

You seem to be isolating yourself out of a good ground contact for the turnout motor. Try connecting the motor to a nearby track instead of this one. You might need to extend the cable.

Thanks Ray. I didn't think of this - I'll give it ago tomorrow.

Place the turnout as is where you want it. Then try a ground cable to one of the rails of the turnout. If that helps, give the turnout a permanent ground cable.
