Hello,

I figured out how to accessing the MTH CVs using the Central Station 2. However, there are several pending CVs. I saw in the bottom of the CV values page an "add" button, which allows me to add more CVs.

My question is: If I add, for example, CV19 using the add button, will it map the CV19 from the decoder or will it just create just like a "dummy" CV and it will ignore the CV value stored in the decoder?

Thanks in advance

You add CV 19 to the list, then click to read the current value from the loco, then change it as needed, then write it to the loco.

IMHO the CV programming screen on the CS2 was developed by someone who didn't fully understand the capabilities of CV programming and who hates DCC.
I know no other controller where CV programming is that complicated.

At least you can save a decoder profile (the CV list) if you have other locos with the same decoder.

Tom

The most important of the CV adresses are and must been in standard, because to use them in correct term by program with others manufacturing products too, which have standard process.
In this case, must all digital system which supports DCC protocol system too have standard process.
If you want to understand more about standard and recommend...check at this:

What I really want to achieve is to re-configure the standard 16 funtions available via the CS2. For example, F6 controls the volume in the loco, I want to get rid of that function and call the function F17, which activates the extended start up.

I wonder if this function re-addressing if feasible.

The decoder manual should tell you whether the function mapping can be changed with DCC CV programming.

If it can be done, then it should be possible with the CS2.

The MTH HO manuals say it can be done. I have not had the time to actually try it. Let me know if you succeed at changing them ...

Hi,

I was able to reassign the Fs as stated in the manual! However, I couldnt save any CV except for the address one in the decoder. My CS2 states it was not able to update the settings in the loco.
All changes were stored in the CS2.

Was the loco alone on the programming track?
You can also try programming on main (POM).

POM made the trick. I just had to save the CVs
Profile and then call it, thus I don't have to add the CVs and them read them from the loco.

Btw, is it possible to change default options? Some defaults are ON like the idle chatter and I hate it, LOL.

I was directed to this thread by a forum member regarding changing CVs. I have been trying to do it with my MTH Amtrak locomotive, but of no success.

Danilo, can you help in this aspect?

Thanks,

Nakul

Nakul,

Can you give me some more information.

What controller are you using? CS2? MS2? I have only changed the CVs with a CS2.

Which CVs are you trying to change? CV17 and CV18 (long address)? Or are you trying to change the CVs associated with the Functions? I have only changed the long address.

Which MTH Amtrak loco are you trying to change? Do you have a MTH model number?

Thanks!!

Robert

Hello Robert,

I purchased MTH H0 80-2152-5 GG-1 Amtrak Locomotive from Euromodeltrains(EMT). I could get the missing functions F13, F14 and F15 as per previous discussion to show on CS2 and MS2.

I am using MS2 as my controller. But I do have CS2 too.

I am trying to change the CVs associated with functions so I can "swap" for unwanted functions like F7, F8 etc with other functions like F19, F20........

MTH GG-1 locomotives have extended operating pantograph sounds functions from F19 to F25 BigGrin BigGrin

Nakul,

It seems what you want to do is something that Hackcell has already accomplished. I have not tried to redo the function buttons yet. I'll let him give you the steps that he took to get it done. I would recommend using the CS2. You do need to have all other locos off the track or set up a small isolated section and apply power from the "Main" track connector. I like to put the CS2 in DCC only mode, but I am not sure that is necessary. Then do your programming from "POM".

If Hackcell does not provide the steps he took in the next few days, I'll give it a try and write down and post the steps I took.

Robert

No other controller I know does DCC CV programming as complicated as the CS2. If you do it for just one loco, even the MS2 may be more comfortable than a CS2.
