Hi Jeremy

I don't live in Bristol but I am a regular visitor to the place for work.

I am in Bristol from PM on 18th August until Thursday evening.

My best times will be Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings for any meet up.

PM me if any of this will suit you.

cheers
Mike

If you're going to Bristol then look up the Harbour Railway. They run steam-hauled passenger trains along the dockside at weekends, you can choose to ride in an open wagon with seats or the brake van (which has a roof!)

The reactions of "normals" to a steam engine contentedly puffing along what they thought was a pedestrian area are hilarious to see.

In fact, the city docks in general are worth a wander. You can easily walk around them in a couple of hours and there are loads of bits of leftover railway and industrial history. Look up a site named "Bristol Railway Archive" which has then-and-now photos and links to Google Maps. Start by searching for Canon's Marsh, Princes Wharf, Ashton Gate Swing Bridge and see where you end up if you click the "To" links at the top of the articles.

If you're lucky enough to be there on a day when "Pyronaut" is out playing then it's not to be missed.

Pyronaut is a fireboat, built with very little superstructure so as to be able to pass under the swing bridges around the docks without needing to open them (the crew would lie flat on the deck!) She can still blast water skywards to spectacular effect.
