Hello!

Yesterday I saw an update available for the CS2 named 'decoder update'.

Anyone already downloaded that?

(this isn't the 3.7 expected update -- just to make the post clear Cool )

Cheers,

Walter

You can update your mLD and mSD with that update. As far as I know, you should select your loco, hit the wrench icon and should be able to find "update" somewhere.

This update is probably v1.15.19.0 and will bring better motor control.

Everybody who did it, please give us your findings! I'm going to test this out this evening, by my dealer. I don't own a CS2 myself but always update his for him, like v3.7.0 (7) from a couple of days ago. Maybe I can tell some about it later this week.
Greetings,
Peter.

The change log does not mention motor control.

I tried the update on one loco and noticed no difference. I was hoping for improved motor control.
I checked the change log after the test ...

Tom

Wat does the Change-log does say? Where did you got the Change-log from anyway? Maybe you can post the whole log here, including the older versions and what has changed in the meanwhile.
Greetings,
Peter.

That there are no important changes.

I found it on Stummi's Forum:

You can find it in your CS2.
It's Märklin, it's German, it's not worth translating it IMHO.

And the CS2 shows them for all decoders - even for decoders that do not support them.
The decoder firmware supports them since 1.12.17 from April 2013.
Neither 1.15.19 from February 2014 nor 1.17.19 from April 2014 seem to improve the motor regulation. At least there are no documented changes and I noticed no improvements with my test loco (I didn't bother to update more than one loco).

If the decoder already has 1.12.17 there is no need to upgrade the firmware to evaluate the new parameters.

I don't completely agree with you. They make updates for a reason. Some are better behavior with protocols or when using some together, like DCC and mFX together. I do think lots of people will benefit from this.

Indeed a bit disappointing that the engine-management enhancement was a few updates ago. But again, this is not the only thing that would improve the driving experience. The programming (updating) itself costs no more then 20 seconds.
Greetings,
Peter.

After the update you see a message box that says a decoder reset may be needed to put the update into action.
If they don't know whether a reset is needed, how am I to know?

I made a reset - and I needed several minutes to re-configure the loco.

Would be nice of they would indicate before the update whether a loco reset is needed.

For decoders that already have 1.15.19 or 1.12.17, you will get 1 or 4 bugfixes respectively.
IMHO none of these four bugfixes is worth the trouble of updating.

Tom
