Is it possible to download "extra" sound functions from the Marklin site (using a flash drive), and then loading them onto my existing sound locos using a friends CS2?
I have been told that the new sound decoders have 16 sound functions, and was wondering if its possible to add these "extras", like rail joints, couplers engaging, station announcements, onto some of my current sound locos-BR23, BR 18.3, Baden IV, etc.....or is this not possible.....?.....Confused

All factory-installed decoders are AFAIK locked against sound updates.
There may be "hidden" sounds that can be activated by adding function keys for them.

For mSD sold separately you can create own sound projects with anything you want.

Hello Tom!

Some of that 'hidden' are already known?

Or we need to play hide&seek with those functions?

Cheers,

Walter

Indeed.
Search the web or try all sounds from 1 to 16.

this is the most unusual topic I've read for a while: to look for hidden sounds in a sound decoder, do you have to join the secret society insider information club ? I do voice my condolences for those who have to embark on a wild goose chase to find more sound slots, its not one of Märklin's puzzle games ? and when you do find another sound slot you'll get a certificate on the other hand you may not be privileged enough to obtain 24 sound slots (ESU)

Sound decoders may come pre-loaded with many sound functions that are not appropriate to every loco, so for example the "bell" sound may not be right for an ICE or the "Station announcement" may be totally wrong for a Prussian goods loco.

Marklin hides those sounds which are not appropriate. Those who want them anyway can find those hidden sounds and use them.

Sometimes they hide sounds that are appropriate (for early BR 218 locos you can get an appropriate station announcement and an appropriate conductor whistle sound).
Sometimes you only gain control over sounds that are played at random anyway. Having control over these sounds still adds some play value.
