Power supply from wall to CS2. CS2 connected with plug to Black box 191724 which is connected with prongs to C track. Programing plug on black box not connected to CS2 or track layout per track instructions. CS2 operating. Cannot recognize locomotives or operate them.

I manually entered a 39560 from the database and although loaded in with icon on control screen there is no interface or operation. Placed MFX 37024 on track and no automatic recognition.

The CS2 unit was lightly used with two locomotives in memory that were used prior and a prior layout. What am I missing? Connection or reset of functions?

Thank you,

Tim

1. Sounds silly, but make sure the cs2 isn't in emergency stop mode (red light is on around big button)

2. try connecting to the programming track connection instead and see if there is any life from there.

3. Try connecting without the black noise surpressor box inbetween

4. Do a factory reset incase the previous owner set something up weird

5. Check your track connections. Do you have a ac volt meter? Measure between the centre studs and the rail.

Thank you for your help.

Okay:

1. Not in stop mode.

2. Tried it. No.

3. Tried it. No.

4. How do I do that???

5. I can check but it did overload once when the track was connected incorrectly. This was after the intial problems and on one of my switches between the programing track and layout.

Thank you, again,

Tim

No problem working now with or without the black box with my manually found in the database BR 81 and Red diesel from the same starter set. The 39560 Kroc when found the same way does not work nor does the mfx 37024 BR 53?

Strange, eh?

Possible one or more track protocols disabled?

Setup, config (wrench icon), track tab

Try swapping your track wires as we'll (ie are O and B swapped?)

I did swap the O and B which led to the overload so that isn't it.

When I try to to recognize one of the locomotives manually I see where each locomotive's lights flash on (39560, BR 81, Red Diesel) except for the BR 53. The 39560 is still not controllable at this point though.

I'll post the results of the set up/track tab protocols.

Why use the black box at all??? This is only "cosmetically needed" for the US market due to FCC rules... And it could be fried....

One brown & one red from the CS2 "Bahn" output directly to the track, that's the way to go in the rest of the world...

And I presume the transformer is the US version, not an European 230V version which would produce too low input power???

The speed sensor dynamics and start locomotives automatically were not checked. Should the track format for locomotives be Auto, MFx, MFX + MM2 etc...?

Thank you, Juhan. I have no problem with omitting it. I would just like to hear some sound and see some smoke!!

Ridiculous. My Croc and the BR 53 are still not working and now the match is on so I will not have this fixed anytime soon.

Hi,

Could 39560 have a different digital address than the factory address 68? If yes and you have not changed the address to loco settings accordingly this causes the problem with this one. When you search a locomotive from the database it has always factory address in it.

That mfx loco problem is strange. Could previous user have disabled mfx protocol? I don't remember exactly how to do factory reset for CS2, but it must be found under Settings/System or something similar. Other users can advice you better as I'm watching football now RollEyes .

Edit: I just checked this from my CS2 and there is only "Restore" under "Setup". Maybe this one then? Confused

Cheers,
Janne

Thank you, Janne. Yes, I watched until half and just re-looked at this. Perhaps, yes, on both your questions. The factory address is 68, of course, so I will try to attempt what you are referring to.

As far as the factory reset I may try that right now if I can... Match is back!

If swapping O and B causes a short, there's something funny/wrong going on with your layout. Just try connecting your CS2 to a short piece of test track and see if it recognizes those models then.

So, when I use just the short track do I connect it to the programming input with the cable or regular input?

Also, when I am looking at the locomotives in the control tab and then go to select a locomotive do I go to the drop down for Create... New Locomotive - manual?

How do I reset the whole system? The only thing I have found so far is how to reset to prior saved back ups.

It doesn't really matter which output you connect to in this case for testing with.

If it is a MFX, it shouldn't need to be created. Put the locomotive on the track. I usually hit stop, and then take it out of stop. Within about 15 seconds it should start downloading the config from your locomotive.

Well, I may have something wrong with the BR 53 because nothing is happening. Perhaps I have an issue as well the Kroc's factory settings being changed as I have selected it from the database just like I did the two locos from the starter set and yet they worked immediately and the Kroc did not.

I will contact the seller on the BR 53. This is very disappointing. I have been waiting a long time to hear some sound and this has been frustrating.

Thank you all for the help, I did manage to figure some things out. If anyone can let me know how to do a complete system reset back to factory settings please let me know. I go back to the index and it only lets me load prior saved settings with locomotives and/or a track plan.

I also have a few locomotive cadrs that were in the box but none for the BR 53.

I wonder if you did not switched Connection between layout track and program track...?
If you have more locomotivs still works, you have perhaps default with the BR 53 and Crocodile.

That depends on which protocols you need to use. Normally, it would be set to 'Auto', that is, the Cs2 will automatically detect which protocol is being used.
