Hi John,

Have a look here (in french) : http://www.lestrainsdeguillaume.com/

Paraphrase : " In 1947 Marcel Gérard (1899-1954) and his son Roger (1924-2005) from a family of clockmakers opened their store "Trains-Avions-Bateaux" (TAB) in Paris ... "

Did quite some innovative stuff, such as adding ventilators, diodes ... fine detailing too.

You'll see that 7107 about 1/3 of the way down the "TAB" page ...

Hi John,

The French magazine LA VIE DU JOUET published a longer article about the brand in 2003. Very intersting if you can read French, for the others there are many pictures ;-) .

thank you guys,

it is interesting to see the loco in question was made in 2 versions one with roof lines the other without but besides this there isn't much written about the loco it self.

Hi John,

In perusing this type of locomotive on eBay, I too find them interesting.

For Marklin users I see 2 potential issues.
For the collector only, none of this is a problem.
1. Is the loco fitted with an AC or DC motor?
Many of these French manufacturers ran equipment on 3 rails suited for DC analogue, like Hornby Dublo.
And then many offered an AC version too.

2. Is the loco fitted with a Marklin type slider pick-up or a tabs pick-up like Hornby Dublo?
The tabs pick-up type is not usually suitable for Marklin puko centre studs, but OK for solid 3 rail.

Then if fitted with AC motor, is it possible to convert to DC, then to digital?
DC motor is perfectly suited to digital conversion.

regards
Kimball
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

Kimball,
there isn't much to read about it except the first 2 references from Markus and Yumgui, there is reference about 5 pole motors and also DC motors so this would be a straight conversion to digital, I've looked at the paint job and one is not 100 % sure if the paint job is original, I also noticed the roof line and it is mentioned this model came with 2 options one with and the other without, the slider is like a Märklin one, has 6 rubber tyres and I don't know how many axles are driven. the references Markus and Yumgui provided, one you can't copy and past the description (french) so there could be more clues in it, others I have copied and pasted.

the extra photos Yumgui provided answers my question about the paint job it looks original and identical as per photos.

another interesting point is, the detail of these locos and it dates back to 1949 and one wonders with these details in those days why the company didn't flourish further than the life span of this family father & son production team. they were in the jewelery game and it is apparent with these skills they've produced these detailed locos. later editions of diesel locos the housing was made of plastic.
but reading on the latest information from Yumgui they also made O gauge locos.

they stopped production or the company closed its doors in 2003 but in 1988 they already had circuit boards, micro motors for 2 fans in their diesel locos, NEM couplings, this is extra ordinary.

part of Yumgui providing these priceless information where is Jacques when you need him.Smile

regards.,

John
