I like the design of the Ludwigsthal track plan on pages 36 to 39 of the Marklin "The Track Plan Book" by Klaus Eckert. I'm having difficulty in trying to interpret the layout. I can't understand exactly how the track layout works as the drawing is extremely difficult to follow (for me it is difficult). So I tried to draw it in SCARM and ANYRAIL so that I could produce a 3D view, however, I found that to be difficult.

Has anyone done the transformation from the book to a drawing program like SCARM, or can anyone suggest where I might find the file for this layout?

Thanks in advance for you advice.

Regards
Greg

Hi Greg,

Dunno if this helps, but Dutch fellows addressed the same problem:

http://forum.3rail.nl/index.php?topic=28986.0

The Dutch thread contains a track plan created with Wintrack 6.0.4.

Hi Greg,

Some time ago, I've tried to enter this plan under Wintrack.

So here is the file done with wintrack10. The plan is not finished (no scenery), but all the hidden loops are drawn with many layers, which allow to view them more easily (2 or 3 hidden loops are stacked at the same place, which makes it difficult to view).

I think you can download a demo version of Wintrack, which may allow you to visualize the 3d rendering.

If you can't run Wintrack, I may post you some pictures of the 3d rendering

Cheers
Fabrice

Thanks fellas for the help. This is exactly what I need, however, I can only download the demo version of Wintack 10 and therefore cannot printout the 3D view, so Fabrice if it's not too much trouble could you please send the 3D views.

Regards
Greg

You're welcome, Greg...BigGrin

Just a warning about the plan I've drawn: most of the elevations lead to a very important slope (from 3,5% to 4,5%).
I think the elevation rate should be lowered to below 3% (let's say between 2,5% and 3%). This implies, if you want to keep the same route, to extend the layout size...

Hi Fabrice, I am also looking at this plan, do you think it is possible to fit a hidden (shadow) station in the 3 metre section(station)

Thanx allot

Hi Frans,

I've tried to insert some hidden station in the plan.
I've done it very quickly, so keep in mind it's a very rough job.
I've been forced to lower some tracks and the hidden level is at height +55 (you need at least 10cm of top clearance between levels, and the left side needed to be adjusted).
You now have 4 lanes in the hidden station, each lane has 1,25m length. I know it's not very long, but if you wish longer size, then the visible part (orange) at +100 must be raised and modified.
The length of 318cm has been increased by 6cm, thus the layout is a bit larger (324 cm).

Hi Frans,
If you have available space in your room, then you may add 10-15cm to the width of the layout, and so have 6 lanes in the hidden station...

But be aware not to have a branch of the U too wide, which would prevent you an easy access to this section, first to build the layout and then to manage trains in it.

Also, my plan is designed for K tracks. You have to adapt it for C tracks (Warning: it's not the same geometry).

Don't hesitate to spend the necessary time to design carefully your layout. It will provide you good foundations for the building...

Cheers
Fabrice

Hi Fabrice,
I am adding 360mm to the width, (188+170)
In your opinion what do you think of this layout

Thank you with all your help

Hi Frans,

If you add 36cm to the top branch of the U, then the width of this branch will be 145cm. If you can access from the rear to the top right corner, it's ok. If not, you'll have to put some hole access in that place.
More generally, if you can access this layout from ALL sides to work on it, ok. If not, big trouble... (you would need a craneBlink , or more seriously something like that : https://www.micromark.co...upport-system,8854.html)

About this layout, I think it's interesting...but the part with the helix will be difficult to build...some kind of challenge for sure...

Good luck
Fabrice
