Hi all,

If you're anything like me, your collection is a bit all over the place. The purpose of this topic is to explore the mixing of railroads/road names/etc. Justification for "odd" mixes on your layout. As we approach the modern era this is more common (locos being leased to different companies, mergers of railroad companies creating mix-ups before units are repainted, etc). The purpose of this topic is to look at some of the interesting combinations that can occur, especially if they outside of the aforementioned circumstances.

To start off, I thought I was all set with ATSF and DRGW mixing up at Union Station in Denver, CO. Looks like there is another player:

UserPostedImage
D&RGW and Texas Pacific in Denver Colorado, 1964.

"Rio Grande passenger trains #3 and #4 were in actuality a contract service for the Missouri Pacific so that its 'Colorado Eagle' train could reach Denver, rather than terminate with the MP freight trains in Pueblo, Colorado. Ready for its afternoon departure to Saint Louis, the seven car train will go out on August 20, 1964 behind D&RGW 5654 and Texas & Pacific's 1951-vintage E8 33." Texas & Pacific's E8 33 was built in August 1951 as number 2013 (c/n 14558) on EMD Order 6104, renumbered around 1961 as 33 to fit into MP's scheme, retired in March 1970 and traded to EMD for SD40's."

Excellent Brandon!

This one is kind of recycled, but originally I did not point out that the D&H PA1 has a NYC coach in tow.

This one is a half cheat, not mixed RR companies, but a strange-ish lashup none the less:

Geep, some F B units, both in Warbonnet and Cigar Band.

And similar here:

It's like a livery history of ATSF.

This is now more about meeting than mixing and mingling, but I think it fits under the umbrella of this thread. In Geneva, Switzerland, Swiss SBB and French SNCF equipment can be seen side by side - see 1984 photos.

So what do we have here in St. Louis, MO? Illinois Central Green Diamond passenger train, at least one Santa Fe box car and other RR equipment (blue locos etc) at the platforms in the background.

Yes, there is an explanation my confused friend:
Formerly Danish NOHAB MY class diesel #1125 was painted in the warbonnet scheme by subsequent owner Strabag Rail Company of Germany before being sold to an Hungarian individual who changed the "Strabag" logo on the nose to "Santa Fe". On the attached photo the "Santa Fe" is in double traction with a NOHAB from Kosovo. Not confused any more, right?

Perhaps another form of mixed railways:

ICE-TD in DSB livery. This train has been given DSB livery by attaching foil in the colours of DSB to it. The photos originate from a Danish forum and there was a remark by the photographer "use them as you like" (photographer Christian2010 writes: "Brug dem frit som I ønsker."):
