I quite liked this little layout for its operational characteristics, and the fact that there was no 24130 curve tracks at all for such a small layout. There is more than meets the eye for such a small layout. However, I am a tweaker, so it didn't take me long to come up with some improvements.

Points I liked:
- enough elevation change to keep it interesting, but also keep grades at a reasonable level
- 3-4 industries to serve as well as passenger traffic, so you could run many different trains
- large station tracks for such a small layout and not parallel with the benchwork is a plus!
- suitable for smaller branch line trains
- suitable for automation on a small layout

Some things that bothered me:
- no shadow station(s)
- somewhat cramped in 245x125
- could only shunt one or two wagons to the brewery tracks due to the switch back (this is a two way street of course since it adds complexity to shunting puzzles)

Here is the original plan:

Now, I had a bunch of M track around, so I considered doing it in M track due to budgetary reasons. But I also found that by increasing the space by 10-20% you could add alot more functions, without overdoing it.

Highlights:
- 280x145
- 2 shadow stations!
- 7286 turntable in yard (this is quite optional of course but it is doable in the given space)
- use of a smaller roundhouse like Faller 120176 is more suitable
- increased length of station tracks
- coal mine area retained as well as freight shed
- M track - plus or minus depending on your view
- options for loco servicing area
- increased area for town, and more space for corner scenery

If anyone is interested I can post the Anyrail file or provide list of materials.

Thanks for sharing. This is one of my favourite small M magazine layouts, lots of appeal due to all the features. The improvements are great as well.
