i just recieved the Marklin turntable 7286 with the digital decoder 7687

i have to work with;

1x cs2
1x 6021 controler
2x k83
2x 6040 Keyboard
1x 6001 transformer

what is the best, easiest and least expensive way to setup the tt with the Cs2 Confused

Use the 7687 decoder with the CS2 to get the 7286 working. The other items are not required.

Should you wish, you can use the transformer to separately power the 7687 decoder, as per the attached diagram.

eh, just connect your tt to the 7687 instead of the analog control panel, the 7687 to the digital power and follow the instructions.
The control panel for the TT is in the page 15 or 16? of the keyboard on the CS2.
if you want you can build the lights indicators with 3 leds and a diode.
cheers

It's on page 15.

I'm trying to set up the same turntable with the same digital decoder but using a 6021. The wiring shown above looks identical to the instructions I have for the decoder and a 6021 although they state, somewhat confusingly to me, "to programme the decoder switch it on by pressing the 6021 on and off buttons". But it isn't working. There is power in the turntable deck (loco lights on) but it wont respond to the step commands from the keyboard.

I realise this is slightly off the subject of this topic but any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Chris

You must have keyboard 6040 to use turntable decoder and setup at adress 15 on the keyboard.

Hello Anders

Yes, I have that. 6040 connected, set to 15 and overlay placed on the keys. I have realised that the power to the loco on the deck is probably received from the track connection and doesn't necessarily indicate that the turntable motor is receiving power.

Strangely the turntable did work for a few minutes - enough to move it around 6 or 7 spokes and then stopped working. It worked perfectly, by the way, when using its manual controller.

Regards

Chris

The turntable manual describes a diagnostic circuit which uses 3 LED's and a single diode, which I suggest you should construct.

The circuit can then be used for troubleshooting and to tell what state the 7687 decoder is in, and whether there are errors, etc.

Also, going back to an old topic............if you have a 7687 decoder, you must have a newer version of the TT to work with it, newer than 2002 IIRC, or an older one rewired.
If your TT is older, you must use a 7686 or make the rewire to your TT.

Just to add my observations to this topic - I have ploughed through the less than adequate instructions on installing the 7286 Turntable with the 7687 decoder - no where do I read about the location or value of the current reducing resistors that are required by the Red, Green and Yellow LED's - (in my case 5mm dia.) required for the index programming procedure

The measured voltage output from the 7687 decoder when the turntable is switched on and connected to CS2, suggests a resistor value of 470 ohms 0.25W - [these are not supplied] - inserted in to each of the 7687 terminal plugs [R, G, Y] with a common return through the supplied 1N4007 Diode connected to the B terminal. Be aware of establishing correct polarity on the LED's before connecting to the resistors and terminals.

BTW - I am not an electronics expert offering this advise - but in my case it has worked OK so far

The circuit diagram for the diagnostic board doesn't show the requirement for any resistors (I suspect they are internal to the decoder) so I never used any. The board works fine.

There have been at least one previous thread within the forum describing the programming procedure - I agree with Graham that the 7687 manual isn't all that well written.

Thanks for the observations - did you use LED's or suitable incandescent bulbs?

I'm afraid that much of this is way beyond my meagre technical skills. Evidently this bit of Marklin kit is fraught with problems. I've taken the digital decoder off the turntable (which is a new one) and hope that I can re-install the original manual controller. The digital decoder can go back into its box.

Thank you to all who have contributed thoughts and suggestions.

Chris

Be strong Chris - get a glass of cider going and study the "badly" written instructions again. I am not completely there yet with CS2-60215/7687 - but things rotate, click and the LED's light up'. With a very basic understanding of model railroad German, it is possible to read a more comprehensive description of what to do on the German language pages of the 7687 instruction book. M. could have done a bit more to assist 6040 keyboard users and those that took the LED option on 7687 decoder.

One issue I didn't initially take on board - to allow enough space for fitting the T/T into by 6 centimetres - 61.0cm from the centre of the T/T to the rear of the 3 bay Lok Shed (72883) is a huge distance in my case.

Thank you Graham. I do appreciate your encouragement. For now the turntable is working well with its manual controller re-installed. My layout, for the time being, is a modest one simply as something to run locomotives on until I can expand into more space. As such I'll modify it from time to time and that might be the occasion to take your advice (when the cider has had effect) and see if I can engage my German language skills to read and understand the instruction book.

I seem to recall that it was also possible to run an earlier version of the Marklin turntable through a K84 decoder. I might investigate that option too.

Vielen dank.

Chris

I must admit that I never got my turntable running with the 7687 decoder. I gave up in disgust and am using a K84 decoder wired as per the instructions on Dale Schultz's website.

I feel much better knowing that distinguished experts have also been defeated by the awful 7687. I don't have the skills to connect up a k84 as described by Dale Schultz so I'll be content operating the turntable with the somewhat primitive (but effective) analogue controller.

Bigdaddynz:

I followed your Diagram, and used the 6001 power unit. the table work perfectly,

Page 15 on CS2 is already ready to use with all the function, but i went on the layout map and setup all the function on it, so i don't have to got always back to turntable page.
I have all right in-front of me.

Well I finally made it with getting decoder 7687 to control the T/T - it works perfectly in both directions with single steps and a complete 180°. For those of you that gave up in disgust of ever getting 7687 to function - I certainly advise building the 3 light (R, Y,G) display module - you need to know at what stage your programming procedure is - by referencing the light display - when programming is completed to your satisfaction, all of the lights extinguish until you select a track spoke - then the Red light will glow until the selected track has been reached. Of course from here on - the light module is not required - but it certainly helps when you need some visual support.

I too am suffering through an attempt to get my TT to work with a 7687 decoder with no success. I am hooking it directly to a CS2 (60213). The new decoder does not have an "L" input so not sure how that affects the posted diagram... any suggestions most welcome. I have hooked up a single incandescent bulb to the "yellow" socket (along with the diode) but the light does not come on... frustrated!

Take a Look on this Page, its in Danish, use Google to Translate the content.

Here you will find Illustrations on how to hook up the Marklin 7286 Turntable

Take a Look on the LDT TT-DEC Turntable Decoder, which i use on my Layout, works perfect.

Hello All,

I have written a 24 page article on how to wire and program the turntable. I also show how to use it with TrainController.

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~...urntable_programming.pdf

Wiring is shown on pages 12-15. Planning your programming of the turntable with examples is shown on pages 16-17.

I'm sure you will find lots of useful information for either the 7686 or 7687 decoders.

Have fun.

Ross
