A link to a short video report on Istanbul rail tunnel linking Europe and Asia.

Perhaps Mehmet Utkan can provide more details on the tunnel and if this is the end (or at least beginning of the end) of the freight train ferry service.

...Though promised for this week, due to some problems that are still going on with the system, I am afarid I have had to postpone my report until another week or two...since its opening there have been many failures such as power cuts, engine breakdowns...in many cases people had to walk all the way...even some passengers needed some medical treatment....I believe the authorities would have tested the system long enough before opening to public.....Blushing Blushing

Hello!

The turkish tunnel was also in the news in Brazil...

The obvious afraid of a project like this is ruptures like reported in your link.

"The TMMOB also said the underwater tunnel was at risk of ruptures in certain sections that could allow water to fill the tunnel."

A few decades ago, the municipality of São Paulo city build a tunnel under a river that cross the city... same issues and problems in the beggining...

Now they are thinking in a major project, maybe not so big like the turkish, but in the same circumstances... A tunnel under the water between Santos and Guarujá (two cities in the coast, 1 hour from São Paulo).

Cheers,

Walter

Hi Mehmet, new systems always have as we say here in the USA, "teething problems". We are

now going through problems with our new National Heathcare Website. They are working on

it every day but it's still not right. Oh, well. That is our technical new world. I will be looking

forward to your report. Cheers,Peter Cool

Wonderful report, Mehmet. It's amazing too about all the historic items which were

discovered during the building progress. I assume that there is another tunnel for the

EU-Asia traffic and not just the one tunnel? Thanks,Peter ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp Smile
