Hi all,

What Märklin locomotives you run most often on your layout? If you have some favorites that run very often on your layout list them here.

Here are my choices:

Diesels:

1. Märklin 29811 starter set DB BR 221 diesel (I will soon get 39821 with C-Sinus motor so it will also be going to run often)

2. Märklin 3134 CFL Luxemburg Nohab digitalised with Great Northern technic

3. Märklin 3066 SNCB Belgium Nohab digitalised with ESU LokSound 3.5

4. Märklin 29820 starter set DB V160 026 with sounds

5. Märklin 3021 DB V200 006 digitalised

Steam locomotives:

1. Märklin 37967 K.Bay.Sts.B. Gt 2 x 4/4 "Mallet" with full sounds

2. Märklin 37963 DB BR 96 weathered "Mallet"

3. Märklin 29855 starter set DB BR 18.4 weathered with whistle and bell

4. Märklin 37862-01 DB BR 86 234 with full sounds

5. Märklin 37953 DB BR 03 140 with full sounds

6. Also many French Märklin models are running often and digitalised DB BR 85 007 too as it has Telex, the weathered CFL version 37560 with full sounds and Swiss 37131 too. I have got some days ago Märklin 37450 DB BR 45 and it will also see much track time in the future... Cool

Electric locomotives:

1. Märklin Swiss Crocodiles generally and Ae 6/6

2. Märklin DB E40, E19, BR 110 and 118 etc. and 39579 E103

3. DRG electric locomotives generally

4. Märklin 3038 SNCF digitalised with 6090

5. Märklin SJ models 3043 Rc1010 and 3030 Da. Both have Delta decoders.

These are my Märklin models that are usually running on my layout.

Regards,
Janne

I run my locos to a schedule that tries to give all locos equal track time, but my oldest locos have obviously seen more running, and I also feel more nostalgic about them as they have been with me for so long. These include:

CM800 Br89
3000 Br89
3016 railbus
3085 Br003
3072 Br212
3039 Br110
3003 Br24
3422 Br194
3376 Br216
3088 DHG700
Ray
Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways
Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

Hi All,

On our layout we tend to run the digital locomotives we have had the longest, mostly from start sets, but we have added to few new ones to that group and some conversions as well.

Steam:

BR 44, start set 29440, mfx, sound, telex, smoke
BR 03.10, start set 29845, fx, smoke, LED's
BR 03.10, 3489 converted to mfx, smoke, w/ mLD
BR 85, 37098, mfx, sound, smoke
BR 94.5, 37160, mfx, sound, smoke
BR 011 3390, converted, fx, smoke, w/ 60901

Diesel:

BR 216, 3374 converted w/ mLD
BR 216, start set 29845, fx,horn sounds
V 200, 3382 converted w/ 60760
F7 ABA, ATSF, 33622, 4060, 40622, converted w/ 60901
Alco PA, NYC, 29570, fx, sound

Electric:

ICE 2, start set 29791, with additional coaches, fx , horn , station announcement
E 94, start set 29094, mfx, whistle
E 40, start set 29855, fx, horn sounds
BR 103, 3357 converted w/ 6090
E 10, start set 29440, whistle, station announcement

We have a medium sized layout with about seven or eight trains on it, usually run four at a time.

Cheers, Gordon

Thanks Ray and Gordon,

Gordon, is this BR 44, start set 29440, mfx, sound, telex, smoke a good running model and with great sounds? What motor it has? I am waiting for a Märklin 37884 DB BR 44 309. That one is without sounds, but it is in mint condition and I paid 146 euro for it. I was first going to buy this same 29440 BR 44 with full sounds and telex as it looks really good too. I wanted a BR 44 without DB "kex", so both of these models are ok and I believe era IIIa? If I like this 37884 model very much, like I believe I will then I probably buy this 29440 model too. It seems to be still quite expensive, so I have time to wait... Wink I like both of these models as they don´t have those smoke deflectors and show the big size powerful boiler of these real "work horses" ThumpUp .

Hi Janne,

Yes, it is a handsome model. Classic five pole motor with spur gear drive, runs great, with cool sounds, you really can't go wrong with this BR 44ThumpUp ThumpUp.

I like this subject better than the "dream ones"... ;-)

My automated shaddow-station control system assures (more or less) that all trains get some time on the layout. (As I dont have more trains than storrage tracks. -Otherwise there would be a problem!)

Unfortunatly, the system gives "long" trains more exposure than "short" trains; As short trains are parked 2 and 2 on each storrage track, and activation is done RANDOMLY per track, the long ones gets out of the shaddows twice as often.
Luckily I should be able to fix that software problem soon, but in the meantime;

SBB Re 4/4 with long (12 waggons) international passenger train (sleepers, diner, ausssicht, car-transport)
2xDSB MY with 12+1 "Herningvaerket" coal hoppers.
DSB MZ with 8 IC coaches.
DB E150 with mixed freight. (I guess around 20 waggons)
DB BR194 -same as above-
DB BR151 with RoLa (8 waggons incl. sleeper coach)
DB BR03 with 8 old-timer passenger coaches.
DB E110 with 6 passenger coaches (Hapag-LLoyd excursion train)
DB BR103 with 6 TEE coches
DB E19 with 6 Rheingold coaches

Note; The trains with only 6 cars are normally judged "long" by one shaddow-station and "short" by the other. -But it also depends on the time of day, outside temperature, and the position of the moon!

There are two other minor (branchlines) shaddow-station automatizations, with runs trains in a fixed sequence, so all these smaller trains gets equal air-time...

BigGrin LOL Maybe it depends also on the humidity, lenght of the shadows and the direction of the wind... LOL BigGrin

You have a good system to run your trains regularly. Thank you for your answer. You have some wonderful trains running on your layout Love .

Yes, it probably depends on that too! ;-)
-Of course I didnt list all of the shorter trains that also hides in the shaddows. They are more numerous (x2) than the longer ones, and there are some very nice FAVORITES there too, although they get less randomly exposure than the long ones.

Some examples;
DB BR18.4 with classic Rheingold metal-waggons.
ICE (The original experimental) -The favorite of all the youngsters who vivists the layout. -Because of its modern look and high speed, I imagine...
DB BR41 with mixed freight. (a personal favorite, where I´ve put some of my nicest freight-waggons; Several Märklin Museums waggons, some from MiWuLa, a classic Carlsberg cooler car, etc...)

I´ll stop here!

PS: I just realized that I listed an Electrotren DSB MZ in my previous post, forgetting that you specifically ask for Märklin. Sorry...

Best regards

Hi everyone,

I rotate quite often, and the arrival of a matching car set might prompt pulling out a rarely used loco or vice versa. However there are a few old favorites:

- 37880 BR 44 which has been weathered with a coal load
- 3701 Borsig in Photogrey
- 37804 "Ferrovia Emilia Romana" Diesel
- 3422 German Crocodile E94
- HAG 242 AE 8/8 2 motor. (with conversion by Jacques to digital!)

The irony here is the German locos dominating the list, despite my collection being 90% Swiss and Italian models. When I sold off my German locomotives and cars about 10 years ago (the bulk of my trains at the time) I couldn't bear to get rid of a few, and they are essentially still my favorites. My excuse is they run to the Swiss border Flapper Here is the German roster:

3422
39221
37880
37881
3701
(37770 has been picked up since then)
SBB Era 2-5

I run two Swiss Crocodiles and two German Crocodiles. I also run the Big Boy Steam and also a GG1 Electric.

My GG1 is the Marklin model 37493. It has a can motor but does anyone know whether it's a 5 pole motor?
