Hi all,

I have made a prototype module for controlling signals. It depends on getting information on track occupancy and should be semi-automatic.
The module is running on 5v and what I would like to ask you is the following.

1. Do you know of any good beginner tutorials for the Contact Tracks (24995)?
At the moment I have a mobile station 2 and the connector box (I don't know the name, sorry) and, of course, some track and trains.

2. Do you know of any good way of making the Contact Track (~12-17 VAC) interact with my module (5 VDC)?

I have tried searching, but I can't really find anything for beginners.

Thank you for any help.

The 24995 Contact track set is a "constant" track, indicating occupancy by the wheels shortening the 2 outer rails between the 2 tracks.
This means that as long there is a Märklin wheelset on the track, it will be "shorted" - ie grounded towards the transformer brown.
Great for occupancy detection and such, ie if there is a train or a part of it occupying the section. The typical applications of this track
is to control a railroad crossing passing, or to see if a track is occupied - like a track in a station area or such.

There is also the momentary contact track 24994 with momentary grounding towards transformer brown, usually used for momentary
actions as switching a signal, turnout, relay or such when a loco/wagon slider activates it.

The detection is made by the fact that the detection piece is shorted towards the brown "transformer ground" or not.
So, the external module should be able to detect a short towards transformer ground. The reference point for this kind of detection
must be that the external circuit has common ground with the brown track ground and can detect the short.

I don't know if this helps or confuses at a higher level, but at least it's a start for a discussion of the principles...

Thank you.

This is as far as I have got, but it's nice to have it included in the thread for future use.

I have the 29450 and an old analogue controller (6647 maybe). Could I just use these together?

I managed to connect the contact tracks to my signal module through a relay.

Now I just need to build a bunch of modules, signals and get some contact tracks to perform a large scale proof of concept. Also, I need to work out how to do turnouts. :P
