quick translation:

Marklin toys in the auction house. A Märklin ship that could bring 70,000 euros and more, comes in the new Göppinger auction house under the hammer.

In the offices at the Rose Place the first auction of the auction house Hohenstaufen is in preparation.
Here tin toy and model trains come under the hammer.
The main focus will be Märklin says Roland Gaugele about the pieces that will in future change owners in his auction house.
For over 35 years he has been professionally involved with Märklin .

The first auction will be held On 25 January.
In the past two years Gaugele has organized several auctions in Tübingen and Göppingen.
Now he founded together with the sworn expert Hans Georg Grupp his own auction house.
Before Gaugele could make auctions, he had to become an auctioneer.
In Baden-Württemberg he did a study, then visit the clerk's office, submit a criminal record check , pay a fee and have a good reputation .
Since 2011 Gaugele has his license for auctioning .

The highest bids in its auctions were previously just under 5000 euros.
This amount is likely to be passed in January. Two special treasures are stored in the premises .
A coach from 1895 in its original version. Eugen Märklin have played with it with his children.
€ 5000 is the starting price for the collectible.
The first large Märklin ship from year 1899 is taxed at about € 70,000
This is basically our flagship ," says Grupp . In the truest sense of the word.
The technical sophistication and hand-painted over a meter long ship still inspires today.
A more than 110 years still intact clockwork motor is the propulsion of the ship .

Various collectors from all over Europe will probably visit Göppingen in the future.
Some come for the ships , the other because of the tin toys and some simply collect everything from Märklin.
" What fascinates me is girls' toys ," says auctioneer Gaugele.
He himself has long been in the possession of some pieces, but does not collect specific.

So the "criminal record check" did not find that valuable items had disappeared from the M museum storage over the years then?... BigGrin

Sorry - just a joke, of course, he's a dedicated Märklin company man with many many years in the company.
Someone with some insights in the company once described him as a loyal "pencil pusher", but I think it's a bit unfair since he loves Märklin...

He did however "threaten" me once many years ago about the domain name "marklin-users.net" - but when I explained that it had been
approved by them some years earlier, I heard no more.

This was in the days when they haunted down all German sites that had "marklin" and similar in the domain names...

I think it brings some nice diversity to have another auction house specializing in toys especially with a focus on Marklin. Auction houses and dealers tend to "play games" (charge high fees, sell questionable items, write poor descriptions, etc.) but there is nothing collectors can do when there are so few of them. Namely Lankes and Selzer are the two main auction houses for Marklin in Germany and there are few other options. Likely this new auction house will have to offer competitive consignment fees to establish itself, and it seems they have already attracted some quality items for their first auction.

It only seems fit that Gaugele would open up his own business in the area of Marklin after such an extensive background with Marklin. I know very little about how he ran the museum and archives at Marklin or why he left but I am sure his years of experience will make him a knowledgeable auctioneer.

The results of yesterdays auction are already on their website.
You need to compare the auction numbers in the catalog with the list of results, to see where an item was sold for.
The Marklin 1096 war ship (auction # 3526) was sold for € 86.000,- Woot
The Marklin steam engine from 1920 (auction # 3525) was sold for € 20.000,- Woot

See here for the catalog: LINK 1

Interesting to see another auction house entering what is quite a crowded market, I think.

Quite a limited selection of Märklin H0, which is all I collect, but perhaps this will increase in future auctions. I find the descriptions of the lots don't give much of a clue about condition, and that is all-important for bidding remotely from the UK!

Good location for the auction house, though, just 100 metres from my favourite Goppingen hotel . . .
