Again, really great stuff Wolf. I have a question for anyone on here. I am not familar with the LMS E800, who is Ritter (another manufacturer)? Also, what is the screw type thing sticking out of the Cab of the Locomotive toward the Tender?

Thanks,

Chris

Ritter is a german company which makes and sales spare Marklin parts. It also restore/repaint old items and is said to have bought old Marklin molds which were used for pre-war models. The "screw type thing" is the device which reverse by hand the direction of the engine.

I hope to have answered your questions...

I think Jean-Pierre covered most of it, but I'll go into a little more into detail on the E 800 LMS. It is considered the rarest of 00 scale Marklin locomotives besides some prototypes and special-version locomotives because it was produced for one year only in 1938. 1938 was the first year of the perfect reversing system that Jean-Pierre describes which allows for hand-reversing by the lever in the back of the cab and also reversing remotely by the transformer. Supposedly there were only about 30 made of the E 800 LMS for the British market partly due to the oncoming war which caused production of this locomotive to stop (Germany and Britain weren't friendly trading partners during the war). However, based on my own research I guess that there must have been more than 30 or so E 800 locomotives produced because of the number which I believe still exist today (I won't say how many to protect those collectors that own an original and want to say there are only 2 in existence!). Therefore, I believe that there were around 30 of the individual E 800 locomotives and perhaps many more sold in sets (I believe there were E 852 LMS and E 842 LMS sets but I don't remember -- one can find out in the 1938 British market catalog which is the rarest 00 Marklin catalog today). Sets are very common in the UK because they have everything required to get started.

Best regards,

Paul

Hello Wolf,
(answering post #42 of this thread)
I saw your reply only a few minutes ago.
I'm sorry I could not sell the R700 to you, after all the contacts with Thomas were a bit earlier (and the loc belonged to grandfather, not to me). We brought the loco to him 18 december and I think it has come home! (this is ofcourse before I saw your Collection...)
Here are a few links to the 3railforum with the original story of the LNER R700 (not 800) and the topic I opened with the link to this thread.

LNER R700

topic with link to this thread
translated something like: showing off with goods from others? Yes but wait till you've seen this!!!!

If you have difficulties with the Dutch language there is also a topic of the LNER R700 at this forum:

Also a thank you to Paul for bringing you to this forum!

best regards,
Frank

Thanks for sharing your wonderful collection and layout Drool

Truly inspiring for us youngers. I wonder if the same will apply when we post pictures of our digital trains in 30 years time!

Wolf,

This collection you've got is a bit outdated, do you have any new locos ? I'm only joking.

You must be on top of the list in this forum with this collection.

One thing I really like, your locos are'nt in a static dsiplay unit only, they have an exercise yard to run aroundThumpUp

Thank you very much for sharing your collection

regards.,

John

P.S.

If you ever think, counting your locos is getting a bit too much for you I can help you rounding them off BigGrin
