Our Marklin Club's H0 layout, Bergatlbahn has been removed from our clubrooms for display at a local school this weekend, so while it is gone, we are making use of the space to set up our Gauge 1 modular layout 'Istein'. Istein is based on Istein town in Southern Germany, which is not too far from the French / German / Swiss border.

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istein

Here's a video I took of some of the action. There will be some still photos to follow.

The V100 and E40 are my locos (V100 was received about 3 days ago, so this is it's first run). The Crocodile belongs to a fellow club member. The SBB coaches you see being pulled by the Crocodile are completely scratch built, and they weigh a ton!

It certainly is Ian. We missed out running Istein at our annual MMR show last year, because of space restrictions, so this is the first time Istein has been run in about 16 months or so.

Here's a couple of photos from either end showing just how much of the clubrooms is used by the layout - we have Istein set up in its most basic format.

My friend also has a scratchbuilt Ae 6/6, which he forgot to bring with him. We might see it today.

As you can understand, G1 doesn't have the range of items available from manufacturers that H0 does, so sometimes desperate measures have to be taken to obtain the models you want. The guy who built them has done a fantastic job.

Yeah, dunno how he does it, but he sure must have the time and means to do so ...

They look factory built !

Dear BigDaddy,

Thank you so so so much for such vidieos and such astonishing pics. I have too H0 layouts at home and something more than a diorama in 1 Scale, just for doing oprations with trains...!!! May I ask you which kind of curved tracks you are using?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi Stefano, I believe there is a mix of Marklin and Peco Gauge 1 track used on this layout. I don't know for sure, but the wide radius curves may be made from the Peco flex track.

BigDaddyynz, Can you tell me about the semi trucks on the video. Some of them look like they could be Tamiya RC trucks.

I'd love to have a 1 guage layout that nice to run my large scale.

Thanks,
Bill

To be honest Bill, I don't know the origin of the semi trucks, I'll have to ask the owner that question.

Hi Dave,

Thank you very much from videos and pictures of these beautiful gauge 1 locos and cars. I have only 80 cm straight Märklin 1 gauge track and I´m currently waiting for my two Märklin 1 diesels Smile . I bought a new 54325 BR 260 heavy version of the V 60 shunter. Other one is also digital, but a little older version of V 100. Like new unused V 100 1040 from the starter set 55031. 54325 has sounds and telex, and V 100 don´t have.

I think that it will look so good to get these two gauge 1 diesels to my train room for display ThumpUp . But as I have CS2 and also MS2 for controlling them it is not so difficult to buy later more track and build a living room layout sometimes. I´m getting also a new Märklin Maxi 54961 Olex tank car with cheap price. These models are so large and my train room is quite small, so in the future maybe after some years a 1 gauge Crocodile, V 200 diesel or some steam loco. I really have to decide what I want as the space (and my budget Wink ) is so limited.

I´m really waiting for seeing these two diesels. A different feeling than waiting for H0 items that I have already in my display cases and chest of drawers. RollEyes

Cheers,
Janne
Märklin H0 digital layout. I have analog and digital H0 Collection. Rolling stock mostly from era I, II, III and IV. Märklin 1 gauge beginner.
