I have recently acquired a Bollinger Edgerly Scale Trains wood-cut kit. This one, in fact.
I have never built a kit like this, so I would appreciate any tips or links as to how to get the best results from these sort of kits.
I have experience with plastic kits, and white metal figures, so I'm not a complete newbie, but I'd like some advice on how to build this laser-cut wood kit.

Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Damon

Hey!

I suggest you shall try laser wood-cut kit.
I use wood glue to fasten cardboard walls and woods.
A tip...never use acryl color on the thin cardboards.
Use enamel color thinned with special thinner.
If you decides to paint and weathering yours building.

Hello.

I'll jump on this.

Need tips for paint and glue.

Paint before assembling just as plastic kits ? Testors Model master good enough ?

What type of glue? Name examples are welcome. There are diffrent type of glues as far as i have seen, with diffrent drying end results ( drying blank or not etc) What do you who have build this kit used?

Thanks for answers ThumpUp

I understand it is better to paint both sides of the panels to avoid warping. Paint them in very thin layers to prevent the wood absorbing the paint and then getting deformed. I have a couple of kits but never dedicated the time to build them. I only see them as a last resort option, when nothing else is available, they seem to require an awful amount of care to get top results.

Hi all,
Remember there is a difference between a laser cut kit and craftsmen kit,...

Hi Damon,all,
As with any kit,....
Copy the instructions and make notes:painting/weathering/assembly/sub-assemblies,etc.
Next post a photo of the kit itself(raw wood?) then painting or staining the wood prior to construction maybe in order.
A 'true' flat work surface for the walls
Clamps,lots of them!Smile
Adhesives: your going to need something to join different materials together.

Thanks everybody!

I've just received this DVD which seems like a good introduction. I've also got the kit under discussion in the DVD.
I quite like the range of laser-cut kits out there. I'm planning a US section of my (future) layout, and some of these kits really appeal to me.

The video mentions a lot of MicroMark tools. Are they good quality?

Cheers,
Damon

See: https://www.micromark.com/

They will also send you a free paper catalog.

Testor model master has acryl color which is not good for thin card board!
Use Humbrol enamel color instead...if you like thinn it too.
For laser cut kit made of wood and card board i use wood glue for indoor.
They dries transparent.
