Hi Ian,

I guess the UK BW club meeting is jointly organized with the DB museum in Koblenz-Germany ??
They held also a Festival coming weekend with a big loco parade.
The Motto is "100 Years of Diesel", with some lovely V200.

But I think the BW loco parade is just as spectacular !
Please don’t forget the pictures and video !
I already look forward to the vids and pics.

Wow !! ThumpUp
Ian, I really wish I could also attend the UK Stammtisch tomorrow, and I checked what it will cost: airline ticket, hotel for 1 day, rental car .... About € 600 - 700 total.
And as you know I'm also saving up money for a Faller AMS layout.

I wish you and your visitors lots of fun tomorrow !!

Hi Ian, once again, thanks for a great day. Jane did us proud again with the catering. Nice to see wee max attend his first BW event. Some lovely locos put their best foot forward. Alan

P.S. Our new member, Mike a sprightly 81 year old joined in the festivities well.

Hi Ian,

Are you familiar with the German word “Stammtisch“ ??
I notice that it is increasingly used outside Germany as well, specifically in the MRR scene.
It is not easily translated into English.,
Literally speaking, the word Stammtisch is a table in a restaurant which is reserved for the same guests at the same time or day every week.
It means something like regular get together meetings for specific interest groups, not commercial organized, with togetherness, intimacy and shared interests in the foreground.

In Germany MMR Stammtische are very popular.
I really like watching photo and video reports of these Stammtische, one can see many people have fun with trains.

Your regular Meetings at BW are a real true Stammtisch !
Sometime in the near future I will be there too.

Marco

Ian,

Just a quick note to say thank you very much to Jane and yourself for yet another great gathering at Baden-Wurttemberg. Jane once again did us proud with the excellent spread, and as always the train operations in the 'shed' were impeccable.

Thanks fore another great day.

Looking for ward to November 24th.

I really enjoy our UK get togethers, but distance and geographical location means that we are all still not able to meet at these meetings.

I would like to make a proposal to our Marklin UK Club members that we look to do something a little more adventurous next year (a thus allow ourselves a little more planning time) something that will allow us all to meet up, and maybe also meet some European Forum friends as well.

As we know there is Eurospoor next week and also an event at Cologne in November, both events are annual.

It looks to me like Eurospoor is possibly the better of the two events and there will be plenty of Marklin to fill our boots.

My proposal is to gauge Marklin Club UK interest in a team outing to Eurospoor next year - 2013, and hopefully we can encourage some of our European Forum friends to join us at the show and maybe we can organise a dinner and drinks one evening so we can chat and get to meet face to face. This forum has a few members in the Nederlands who I am sure would be able to join.

So please can we see if there is any interest for this trip.

Glenn

Hi Glenn

Sounds a good idea to me.BigGrin I'm sure there can be an amalgamation of members travelling from the UK to cut down travel costs etc.

With virtually a year to plan, it shouldn't be too difficult to gauge interest and book a hotel and travel.ThumpUp

I will certainly attend the Eurospoor meeting.

EDIT:
We don't have a big house, but if necessary a few members can stay / sleep at our place, we live in Den Haag (The Hague), about 45 kilometers away from Eurospoor, 35 minutes by train / car.

Mike,

My thoughts exactly. I was also thinking that easyJet fly to Schiphol from several destinations in the UK, as well as Flybe. So I was thinking if we could get to Schiphol we could hire a people carrier and share the cost. Or share car and ferry. I am open to thoughts.

I can confirm that there will be Brenden and I for the list.

Thanks to Marco for his very kind offer.

So who else will join us, I hope we can attract other Forum members to join us, from other EU countries, there are plenty of active members in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Portugal, France and Turkey.

Gents,

Just in case anyone is interested there is a company in the UK, who does coach tours to Eurospoor;

Contact:
Parkway Tours
John Elver
Phone 0117 969 3119
or 07846868101
E-mail John Elver of: Parkway Tours

Flightwise just for consideration;

KLM are offering flights for next year (September 2013 as you can only book 11 months in advance) return from Manchester to Schiphol for £76 if you book now, and from Edinburgh or Birmingham for £79.

Currently you cannot book easyJet beyond 8 September 2013, but they are currently no cheaper than KLM.

Living in Cheshire, I always travel to Eurospoor on the P&O car ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. This is an over-night crossing, so is not particularly cheap, but is good quality and there's a Langan's Brasserie on board for those who enjoy a good dinner. There's also a buffet restaurant, which is less expensive, and a coffee shop.

Arrival time in Rotterdam is 8am, so it's easy to get to Utrecht in time for Eurospoor opening. Eurospoor is on for three days, Friday-Sunday, so I travel over on Thursday night and spend Friday and Sunday at the show, and usually do some sight-seeing on the Saturday. Usually my wife comes with me, and we make a little holiday out of it, as there is good shopping and good restaurants in Utrecht, but this year I am going with one of my US Märklin friends, and then travelling into Germany to visit my Märklin dealer and do some other Märklin-related errands.

Previously I have always stayed at the NH Hotel at Jaarbeurs, just across the road from Eurospoor, but this year they have closed down their secure car park (which is important for me) so they have lost my business, and we are staying at the Ibis which is also within walking distance of the show.

If you are a keen Märklin collector, the market section of Eurospoor is so large it can take a whole day to look at every vendor. The stall frontage is allegedly over a kilometre in total length. There's a mixture of new, secondhand, and serious high-price rarities, so something for everyone.

Hi Glenn and Nigel

I fancy the idea of the flight and sharing a people carrier.

I used to like the Hull - Rotterdam ferry but unfortunately it has been taken over by the rowdy crowd and if you get a cabin in the middle of the boat you get the noise of the caberet all night.

I use Ibis all the time in Europe and they are good valueBigGrin

Who is going to say yes to the flights as if we don't agree then a people carrier is not so attractive?

Hi all,

So what's the plan for the 24th and 25th of November, our next club meeting.

Saturday 24th November....

Go to the Falkirk Show ( and buy all/any Marklin there Smile ) and later in the day, look round the new layout and discuss track plans.

Sunday 25th November....

This will be the last day running Loco's at the cabin layout...Sad

Let me have your idea's/input.

Thanks.

Ian,

I am coming with Brenden as usual, and I am also bringing Nigel with me.

I suggest we meet you at Falkirk show, any idea on best route?

Many thanks

Glenn
