Hi Ian

Nice pictures and movies.
The one with the BR 23 and the BR 24 running reminds me of my first carpet lay-out back in the 1960ies.

Yes. They started their lives as Bavarian EP 5, DRG called them BR E 52 and DB listed them as BR 152 after 1968.
Germany's heaviest electric loco (heavier than BR E 95).

Hi Ian,

I don't know how, but I must have missed your photos of the Br152. Lovely loco! ThumpUp

I have this loco in Brown as the EP5. It runs great, but it's a pig to get all the wheels on the track properly!

Welcome to our Class BVI weekend.

I thought I'd start with a little history on the Locomotive.

Over a long period of time the class BVI locomotives were the backbone of the motive power for express trains and mail trains on the Royal Bavarian State Railways.

During the period of their construction, 1863-1871, these units were constantly improved, and the locomotives from the first series were rebuilt. Hence, for example, the instalation of new boilers increased the steam pressure from 116 to 145 pounds per square inch, and the open driving platform with just a canopy roof was replaced by an enclosed cab for improved protection of the engineer and fireman.

Since Bavaria had hardly any of it's own coal deposits, many of the Bavarian locomotives were equipped for burning the native peat. The effectineness of peat as a fuel was relatively low in comparison to coal. The peat tender was therefore larger in volume and was provided with a roof to protect the moisture-sensitive fuel.

Another external feature of peat-fired locomotives were the pear or ballon-shaped smoke stacks, which were supposed to prevent sparks from flying.

Ian.

Couple of photo's of the analog Loco's I've bought over the last 6 weeks.

I've had them all running apart from the 3029, which has a couple of wires that need to be re-soldered.

They are..2*3005, 3419, 3085, 3000, 3048, 3031 and the 3029.

Hi all,

Here I am with 2.5 hrs to go, getting ready for my usual last second "killer bid..Smile " on a lovely BR49 3419, when something just clicked, I walked upstairs, looked in the cupboard and there it was....3419 looking back at me.
My next thought was, do I need 2 of them. Smile

Is this the start of something more serious...what's my name....or do many forum members have this same condition....Smile ThumpUp

Ian.

I bought the 3419 early November 2011.Smile

I guess why not to have 2 of them if it doesn't squeeze a wallet too much..Wink .

Every time I see the beautiful locos from that classic boxes, I think: they are very unique since they will NEVER be produced in this form again. They impregnated the beautiful old days of Maerklin, brought the joy to people who bought and played with them before you and... - more practical thing - hardly would become less valuable in the future.

Ok, this is just a blether of the man who doesn't own at least one loco shown at your picture. Blushing
