I joined this forum a couple of days ago, after reading for a while as a guest visitor.

I'm a 46 years young railroad modelist living in Holland.
As a child we had a small Trix Express modelroad at home, so I grow up with trains and the 3 rail system.
Later I started again (with my sons) with Marklin with a small railroad, nothing special, only 4 digital loco's

But now I want to change things and I'm going to build a 1950s model railroad.
A few weeks ago I started collecting and buying 1950 Marklin stuff.
And the buying is quite an adventure !

I bought a lot of 00 system 3600 tracks and turnouts.
Some sellers really asked insane lots of money for this 3600 tracks.
There is a guy on 'Marktplaats' (Dutch Ebay like website) that sells 100 pieces of 3600 track for € 825,00.
He gives a Marklin catalog for free to his buyers..., YES RIGHT !! He must be joking asking that price.

But when I looked further I found a couple of times the same amount tracks for only € 30 or € 50, with lots of original boxes !!
And some tracks where still rapt in Geman newspapers of the seventies
This track type is between 60 and 65 years old but it is so amazing that some of the track pieces look brand new and has never been in use or laid hands on.

Man, I really love the look of the 3600 tracks with the solid middle rail.
Looks so much better than the plastic C stuff.

I wanted older "vorkrieg gleise" (pre war) 3600 track with 16 sleepers in stat of 24, but could not buy it anywhere, maybe 10 or 20 pieces but not enough to build a proper railroad,

Also starting collecting 1950s and 1960s books of Faller and Marklin and so on.
I also love the old Faller, Kibri and Vollmer scenery.
This week I also bought some rare Faller in Belgium, I'm wating on the box and cann't hardly sleep.
And I bought this week LOCO 3051(1) that was build between 1965-1967.
The Loc looks almost brand new and runs perfectly.
I wanted this Dutch beauty loco for a long time and the box arrived today.

Welcome to the forum, well it looks like we can add another analog enthusiast to the list.

the secret service in Scotland myst be busy getting new recruits on line.

You may can't follow my wisdom but there seems to be many new members who love analog and the period before or around the 1950's.

You may also already have found out, our Baron von Third Rail (Ian) loves the stuff as well and so does his associate Mehmet in Greece and many others.

My next question could be out of line but will you be interested in buying Roco Dutch locos (3rail or AC)

regards.,

Thanks a lot for the welcome words !
It makes me feel at home, and it is nice to know that I'm between 1950s enthusiasts and analog AC friends.

I couldn't not sleep tonight.
Yesterday I bought a 1950s Faller item that was on my special wish list for more than 40 years.
In 1966-1970 my father wanted this Faller item to, but he hadn't got the money for it.

I had given up hope that I ever find it. There was a period in my life (when I was not married) that I was prepared to pay € 1000 for it.
But the last few years the item was never on the market, twice it was, but than I was to late.

Yesterday I found it on a Begium website for € 35, with a lot of damage and broken parts,
It was there for 10 months for sale and had only 4 vieuwers because it has not got the right tags, so nobody knows it was there.
It could not be found on Google and so on. The site didn't mension the Faller item number or even the word Faller, only the name of the building.
I saw the ad looking for 1950s locos.
When I saw that building for sale, I get a big 2 cm thick layer of pimples on my arms and get tears in my eyes.

So, now I'm really afraid that the box get shipping damage or get stolen or lost or something like that, when it send to my home from Belgium.

I cannot sleep.....40 years waiting is coming to a sort of final climax.
When I received this mysterious item (I hope next Wednesday) I make a special restoration project of it here in the collectors corner.
Is that OK?

what kind of turnouts do you have - single or double solenoid switches ? (Is this correct English? In German: einpolige oder zweipolige Weichen).
My advice - take the double ones, they work better and are more reliable!!
In case you will change your mind for 3600-tracks with 16 sleepers, I have more than 200 to give away.

Dear Wolf,
Your post of the rebuild of the 1939 Leipzig anlage was the trigger for me to join this forum!
It is a honer to see you now in my own topic.

About the 3600 turnouts, I collected about 15 of them, I take a look to the switches...

And Yes, I indeed love and prefer the 16 sleeper type.
If you can help me with them, that would be really great !!

Nice Loco Yumgui !

I'm not feeling well !!

Crying

I discovered that the rare Faller item I bought in Belgium, maybe isn't that rare as I thought it was.
Today I saw two times the same building for sale !!!!!!!!
And in a ten fold better condition, then the badly damaged Belgium one, that is being shipped to my home at this moment.
Try to buy them too.

Hi kweek... welcome to the forum

There are many here with experience in a wide range of brands, models etc, including Faller (one of my favourites also) ThumpUp

Perhaps if you can share with us the model of the Faller item we can assist?? I'm sure we are all curious in this mysterious item that has held your heart all these years? Wub Wub

I share your enthousiasm for the 3600 series M track. I use this vintage track on a regular basis with more modern M track and experience very few problems with interchangability. The early post war 3600 track has a copper glow about it which I find attractive. It is truly impressive when one can use 60 year old track with C track adaptors. I also have some OO 3600 including two turn outs. The OO track looks live new. Have fun.

Hi Soest,
I quote from your post
The early post war 3600 track has a copper glow about it which I find attractive.

I don't see "a copper glow" with early post war tracks - but with pre-war tracks.
I will attach pics of post war tracks with 16 sleepers. Due to lack of material and colour we know quite a variaty of post war (16 sleeper) tracks.
Märklin changed in 1950 the gauge nomination 00 in H0 .
The 3600-tracks with 24 sleepers, production started in 1947, could therefor be called 00 or H0 tracks.
This is just for clarification.
Regards Wolf

I did a (classic) Model kit review in the Model Kit Review section here:

https://www.marklin-user...lick--platform---H0.aspx

The mysterious item is the 1950s Faller Bahnhof Schonblick B-103 (and platform B-115).

Hello Wolf,

I find this copper glow with the 24 sleeper track that has quite a dark (or perhaps, dirty) coloured ballast - perhaps a trick of the light or my old eyes. Thank you very much for the pictures of the post war 16 sleeper track. I have a small amount of the 16 sleeper track which I believe, from the pictures you have posted elsewhere, is 1939-45 vintage. It is very helpful to see the colour of the underside in determining this.

Regards,

Mike
