Hi Mehmet,

before your post I didn't notice that there are versions of Ae 8/14 with 3 pantos... OhMyGod
My one, produced in 2011 (also 11801 green, MFX), has just 2 pantos. She's super-heavy, you know, I run her very rarely, bought mostly to put in the display with other Swiss electrics... RollEyes
I really liked both your 8/14s with 3 pantos, looking more impressive, no doubt. ThumpUp
Did you get that green 11801 recently?

Cheers, Andrey Smile

Hello Andrey & Hi Mehmet, Wink

In the Marklin world AE 8/14 11801, exists in two versions, but several modells. (M37593, 1999-2001, & M37596, 2010, & in Set M29814, as well as in Sonderseries M26539 Set, 2002, one of my "prizes" Drool Wink ) These are the two pantograph version, as she was operated in era III. E & OE Blink

However as the Prototype Museum Lok 11801 now exists in the SBB Museum in Erstfeld ,(M33591 & M37591, in green (150 years of Swiss railroading) 1997, as well as MHI phantasy model in silver metal 33592, Mehmet's models, the RARE ones Wink ) she has three pantographs, goodness knows why, except for a change in the transformer layout maybe. ?? Perhaps Dr Eisenbahn may care to enlighten us if he knows ? please Jacques Smile

Hi Andrey,

I must admit I cannot remember the year exactly but I got her in Dortmund probably six years ago...it cost me 210 €...one of the most expensive locos I have bought...I found the silver one in Rossdorf two weeks ago....110 €....RollEyes

Hello Gentlemen!
Simple answer: the third one is a "dummy", and is correctly modelled as such on the Märklin loco : no roof Hi-voltage connection going to the third pantograph...Wink

Why is it there?

Well, simply , it's a safe and convenient place to stock the spare one they have kept when the lok was retired from active duty!

Crafty SBB engineers! Wink

If it were stored somewhere else in some distant warehouse, it would be running the risk to "disappear" (and maybe re-appear on another historic lok or someone's private collection!Cursing )

And IMHO, she looks better with 3 pantos than just 2: imagine that front unit completely "bold"???Scared

Hope this answers the question

Cheers

Hi Jacques, all,

Well actually the two pantograph versions M37593 et al, have a connected pantograph on the rear end of both "halves" so one is not "bald". I say rear end if you consider the slider to be on the front half, and both mine operate that way fwd Wink
I took some pics today of my 37593, but rather than clutter Mehmet's thread, I will post them in my own "Me and My Trains thread" in the next day or so and provide a link here;
So pardon me Dr but it seems those "clever Swiss engineers" must have done a bit of rewiring after all Wink Blushing or Marklin took licence, and made the models incorrectly Scared
However if correct, on M37591 & 33592, the spare pantograph has been mounted at the front of the "front half" which was formally "bare", and the active one from the rear of the front half has been moved to the front of the rear half, and a little bit of roof rewiring carried out Blink
It would be interesting to see a photo of the 11801 prototype as it was in the 50's

Hi Glenn, Mehmet and all!
Correct: the one you have is the "pre-retirement" version....only after the engine was taken off active duty, did they re-arrange pantograph and roof line.
Same engine, just another period.Wink
