Rinus,

What type of solenoids are you using, I've noticed you've mentioned Märklin, before you add any more I would test them before you connect them.

I thought this was a thing of the past, when we first operated the layout at a show I've blwon several and I couldn't make out why until I've inspected them.
The soldering was the culprit by soldering over 2 contacts withother words, when the solenoid shifts to one side it lifts up the tungue and cuts off the power but with mine, the power cut never happened.

The standard Märklin ones 7549, allthough some are quite old. I operate them with Viessmann 5212 decoders. A viessmann powermodule is fitted between the decoders and the transformer.

I think I have the same problem with the one mentioned above. With the result that the plastics melts above the copper wire.

I'll use servo's for the top level.

Rinus, when you go to the video editor you can enhance the video and one option is to lighten up the video.

I like the double traction

Hi my friends!

The catenary arrived. I ordered the all metal profi catenary system from Sommerfeldt. http://www.sommerfeldt.de/data/...erfeldt-katalog-2009.pdf. They come in blank metal, so they do need to be painted first. I must say they surpassed my expectations. they really look terrific. Love .

Also I spotted an offer on Lippe, two Sdkmms:

And of course our cat did some inspections:

Testing the landscape...

Yup signals look fine too ...

Plaster seems dry as well ...

Smooth running ...

Hi Rinus! Layout's coming along quite nicely. Handsome kitty! My Black Jack seems many times to take the same route over the railroad. It's amazing how he crosses the catenary and cross spans without hardly ever touching them. His brother Izzy hardly ever visits the layout. Black Jack always heads for the high ground and sits on the
Autobahn on the mountain. (Avatar Photo). Have a great Chirstmas and New Year. Peter

Thanks for the replies all!

Train traffic came to an stop, while our cat took a nap on the track. I wonder if the current doesn't bother cats?

However I also received a birthdaypresent which I think is worthwhile showing!

It does service on the Brennerbahn. Usually in tandem, so there is a possibility to buy another one Drool !

I´ll post a review in the review section when I´ve tested it.

Hi all,

Making progress with the catenary. All the masts have been placed. I still need to install the wire. However I'm gonna airbrush it first. I failed with painting it. The wire is very thing and painting would not bring me a nice result. The wire then appears much thicker. For that I want a compressor.

Unfortunately my Intellibox IR seems to have died. See also my post in the digital section. Now thinking of buying a new Intellibox II, which is quite expensive...Crying

especially since the LS Model order finally arrived after 7 months. Here they are! A 2 set of sleeper coaches

Thanks so much for posting these photos Rinus,

It very exciting for me to see your Sommerfeldt catenary up... it looks very well done!

Do you have any tips on getting things level (upright) and under the correct functional tension?
Will you be running your trains from powered lines.... ?

Also wondering what colour you want to airbrush the wires?
Or are you dispensing of that idea?

Today and yesterday was the first time I had a really good look at your thread here on the forum.
I read it with pleasure. Please keep us up to date.

Thanks again,
Mark

Hope you enjoy!

Hello Rinus,

Thoroughly enjoyed reading through the rest of your posts...
Love how you managed to make the move to your new house with the set in modules.
Wisely done. Great to have such a large space for the layout! (5mx5M)

As for the above video clip, my wife and I sat at the kitchen table with a coffee,
the kids in bed, and watched most of it.
Felt like we were in Austria traveling...
seeing the catenary, the tunnels and the countryside through the one view was well worth it.

BTW - Would love to see anything like this throughout Germany or in Italy.
Sometimes searching Youtube in German is a challenge for me.

Reminds me as well that one day I will have to organize and post my still photos from train trips through Italy.

Thanks so much again for taking the time to post your layout work and development.

Tot Ziens,
Mark

Hi all,

No good news from the lay-out.

My brandnew (well from January this year..) Intellibox 2 broke down! Crying Crying Crying

It's fully blocked ...

I read some German formums and read that this will probably mean a long repair...

I've contacted the agent and will send it for repairs next week. What a pitty.

Guess I'll switch to completing the catenary and focussing on the scenery for the next months.

Not good news about the IB2,Rinus.Since the unit is only a couple of months old should it be completely replaced with another new unit. That would be the fairest way i would reckon rather than wait months for the repairs to be done.

Rinus,

What a layout it is going to be and with the overhead system, you did an excellent job, looks very professional. congratulations. I've just subscribed to your videos and will await the next one, well until the Intellibox returns, I hope soon.
I just had my Radio control from ESU returned and programmed some locos into it and for some unknown reasons my 2 V220/200 aren't responding to speed or the reversing button.

Hi all,

The Intellibox sort of repaired itself.. BigGrin BigGrin .. thats what I call german Ingenuity !! BigGrin BigGrin

That fixed, Im planning to do mayor things this summer on te scenery. thats the part I really look forward to. Drool

Before that there are a few basics to do:
- complete catenary
- fix bugs (read prevent derailments or unwanted stops or pantograph killing objects)
- connect switches main level
- complete the lissy sensors
- programm RocRail

This weekend I set off to install the missing Lissy sensors. I use the Uhlenbroch Lissy system to identify track occupation instead of the S88. The Lissy sender under a train transmits his unique signal by infrared to the sensors. You can then programme the sensor to do specific things, in this case give track occupancey and transmit the train position to RocRail.

I bought 4 extra Lissy receivers.

Each receiver includes the receiver unit, 2 sensors and a loconet cable.

One can use 1 or 2 sensors to identifty track occupation. If you want to stop the train exactly where you need oit to stop (signal) you use 2. In this case thats what I want. we start with drilling two 3 mm holes for both sensors in the centre of the track between the sleepers.

Hole is drilled, so we can put in a sensor!

Its hardly visable.

With the sensors fitted, its time to have a look at the receiver unit.

We position it under the table and connect both sensors.

Time for the last step: plug in the loconet cable and conect it to the central station.

Next time I'll connect them to RocRail.

Hope you found this interesting. The Uhlenbrock Lissy system is not very widespread, therefore i thought it might be interesting to show this.

Rinus

Rinus,

good news with your intellibox, I hate things like this when they happen because it kind of interrupts everything.

one of these days I'll start with an automatic recognition systems: track occupation but I haven't decided yet which system I'll use.

Need your help on this one. I'm looking for a station building kit that is similar too the prototype 'Steinach am Brenner' in Austria.

Steinach am Brenner

Ive got three contenders sofar, but happy to hear more!

# 2 Faller 110123 Bahnhof Warthausen
