Hi all,

I do not know if this has already been discussed in the forum: who manufactured the 7288, 72881 and 72883 roundhouses for Marklin?

I was thinking about Vollmer (maybe read somewhere in the forum...), but they replied me they make their own roundhouses.

So if someone knows, please let me know, as I am trying to order only the plastic doors (a friend of mine sold to me the 7288 at a very low price as he wrongly glued the doors on the hinges in the closed position and then he broke the hinges.

Cheers

Renato

Hi Renato,all,
Vollmer makes them for Märklin.
Try contacting them:

Hi Kevin (AKA Dr D),

Already done by means of the Contact Form to the link given by you!

They denied they make the roundhouse for Marklin, but said they produce their own roundhouses, gave me the Vollmer reference number and that's all folks!

Thank you for your reply.

I'm currently building the Vollmer roundhouses, they look very similar to the Marklin roundhouses. So, if Vollmer are not making the Marklin one, the Marklin have made a near copy of the Vollmer roundhouse.

Hi David,

Could you please send me a scan of one pair of doors in order to check if they are the same model made by Marklin with the same hinges position?

Thank you in advance

Renato

Sure, I can post a picture of them. If the picture on the CS2 of the Marklin roundhouse (when you shut the CS2 down) is anything to go by, there may be some subtle differences in the door hinges between the Marklin and Vollmer roundhouses.

I will post the pictures later on tonight, when I get home from work.

Hi all,
The doors are different. The M model has no windows and it seems to have 4 hingesBlink The Vollmer has windows and two hinges.

The Fleischmann 6476 Loc shed is most likely a similar model and could then mean that Fleischmann produced the roundhouse.

If memory serves me right Fleischmann also made the turntable for Märklin.

Hi all,
Maxi, good catch, except for a few things. The Fl RH has square doors and is built for a 7.5º of the tracks. Both the M and V have arched doors and are built for 15º tracks.
Fl did 'build' the 7286 TT for M.However, they were building and selling a 3 rail version of this long before they did for M.

Hi Renato,

i would be very surprised, if the original manufacturer would be someone else than HELJAN.

Markus

I do not agree with the guess on Heljan. I would put my money on Vollmer. In my mind the pictures posted by Bigdaddynz shows this but here is also one from Vollmer:

5758

If you compare that to the discontinued Märklin 72881, then I'm pretty sure that it is an OEM product from Vollmer, but when marketed under the Märklin brand Vollmer will not recognize it or they may not even be allowed to recognize it as their product. The Vollmer picture shows item # 5758 for 6 tracks. There is also item # 5754 for 3 tracks, but the picture isn't to good.

Furthermore I consider these products from Märklin to be Vollmer products even if colours differ:

Compare Märklin 72700 to this Vollmer 5704:
5704

Märklin 72796 and Vollmer 5734:
5734

All pictures are linked to pictures published on the Internet by Vollmer. Given that Märklin block direct linking, look up the Märklin items in the database.

So I'd suggest that you ask about spare doors for Vollmer item # 5754.

Hi David and Markus,

Thank you for your support.

I will try to contact Heljan and see if they can help me.

Otherwise I will fix by myself the broken hinges (but this will be another thread, asking for any suggestion...).

Cheers

Hi,

This is Marklin 7288.

UserPostedImage

If you compare it to the VOLLMER product, you will find no similar detail.
But you are right: The new models which appeared in the last years, mostly are made by VOLLMER. But 7288 appeared first back in 1977, when Marklin sold very many HELJAN-products, under their own name and also as part of the PRIMEX-assortement.

Markus
