Hi Nev,

The RR is owned by the local property developer, who lives in a big house, up on the hillside overlooking Freiburg. Wink Smile

He's always found down at the Town Hall, getting up to some deal or another.

Very nice building, Ian. It reminds me of the famous Munich Rathaus which has moving figures (knights jousting) which do their thing every morning at 11am.
By the way those new wagons are great. I love the interior in the boxcar.

Nice Building Ian. I painted the statues with a brass color before I assembled the building.

Good that the time is 5 minutes to 5 on both the town hall clock and on the clock tower, isn't it? Smile

Hi all,

Well, the members of Freiburg's Märklin Railway club must have been busy over the holidays, as I saw the truck delivering more container boxes from Märklin, down at the goods depot.

Most of the boxes had C track stamped on them, but one box did say Insider steam Loco on it.

There was also another large box that had TANK marked on it followed by a code number and then in larger letters "Flash Dave".

Ian.
.............................................................................

Thanks Ian. The Tank has arrived safely and my Preisers are now training ready to repel the whatever it is from the USA.

When you have time an overall view of your layout would now be great as you have done a lot to it recently.

Hi Ray,

Thanks. ThumpUp

I had noticed they were both at 5 minutes to 5, so I went and checked the camera and of course that was the time I took the photo.Smile

I meant to post this at 5 to 5, but it was nearer 5 past 5.

Hi Dave,

Yes, I think a tank and troops in the front garden, would see them off.

If that fails, a quick "flash" under the kilt, would scare off even a big yank.

Ian.

Thanks Piet, I looked at the Vollmer HO Rathaus online and yes, it is very similar

Hi all,

It was just the usual Thursday morning for Wilfried Diederichs, he got up, showered, had his breakfast, and because it was a pleasant morning, he decided to walk over, through Freiburg, to his small shop, in the town square.

As he opened his front door at the shop, there was a strong smell of Gas, he remembered not to switch any lights either on or off, he opened a couple of windows to ventilate the premises, and as his Gas meter was fitted outside on the rear wall of the building, he went round and shut the Gas off at the control valve.

He then phoned the Gas emergency number.

The service engineer arrived quickly and took charge of the situation.

He checked Wilfried's shop, the Gas readings were high, he checked and evacuated the residents from the adjoining buildings and also the 2 older residents that live in the flat above the shop, there was low Gas readings in all those premises.

The distribution team arrived and quickly traced the fault to a fractured pipe outside, and the escaping Gas was entering the buildings through a telephone ducting pipe.

Within a couple of hours the damaged pipe had been replaced, the residents were all back home and Wilfried had his shop open.

Ian.

Hi all,

That's the emergency teams off site, the digger driver is securing the barriers, before leaving.

The specialist company are arriving tomorrow to relay the 4 meters of cobbles, that were lifted.

Wilfried and his neighbour are out having a quick look at what caused the morning's excitement.

The Emergency number for most of Europe is 112.

I believe we can also use that number in UK, alongside 999.

Yeah. A few decades ago German MRR magazine MIBA suggested to set all clocks to 5 minutes to 5 - and most companies followed that suggestion.
It's up to you whether it's morning or afternoon.

Great snowplower, now we've seen the business end but what makes the business move?
Need pics of the real business workhorse behind it all too... Cool

BTW, don't think Rollses are that common in Baden-Württemberg town streets... They almost only drive Mercedeses down there, you know....

Mercedes vs Rolls ratio is too low.... Flapper

Hi all,

I awoke this morning to a lot of noise and activity outside. I went through to the kitchen, couldn't find the kettle, turned on the radio but there was a lot of background interference and they were playing some old songs.

I went outside to find the neighbours already standing in the street. I noticed a group of 4 or 5 boys playing, only one of them had a old black bike. They were wearing lederhosen and had no shoes on. One of the boys had his proud possesion outside, a toy train.
I walked over and asked if I could have a look. He excitedly showed me it, a clockwork tinplate train with Märklin stamped on it.

One of the neighbours was reading a paper, the date was 23rd January 1941.

I asked what was happening and was told, they had heard that Oberstleutnant Adolf Galland was going to fly past Freiburg in his Messerschmitt Bf109f-2 on his way to another daring mission shooting down British Spitfires and Hurricanes.

The droning got louder and then you could see the fighter plane, and just as quickly it was gone.

But the noise was getting louder, becoming more of a deep growl.

Suddenly, I was awake, eyes open, the first thing I saw was the flat screen on the bedroom wall.

I got up and looked out the bedroom windows, my son Paul had started the Firebird and was reversing it out the garage.
I thought, those new race cylinder heads have added some grunt to that big block chevy.

Standing there, I realised just how much life had changed......

Ian.

Hi Peter,

Thanks, but it was an American who eventually got the better of him, shot down his plane and he sustained a knee injury that was to halt his combat flying.

At that point he had shot down 107 enemy planes.

He died in 1996.

Hi all,

Well, first of all, Ray did say there was trouble coming. Scared

The problem is, they have landed on the wrong layout. Smile

The word Exterminate comes to mind, so I kept well out of the range of the beam distributor.

Look out Ray, they are heading you're way.

Hi Peter,

Sorry, but those Dalek's are much more scarey.

I used to have to hide behind the chairs when Doctor Who was on, but the wife and teenage kids told me to stop it. Smile

Hi all,

So, I bought a couple of 4509 banana vans from Germany last week and they arrived yesterday afternoon. (photo's soon.)

Got them unpacked and they look to be in the usual condition for there age.

What I did notice immediately, was that one van was easy 3 times heavier than the other.(interesting.)

So I opened it up to uncover the hidden cargo. (no, it wasn't boxes of banana's.)

What do you think was inside it??? Smile
