I've seen pics like these before on this website and it seems right out of the 60s for members to display them, giggle, and think they are appropriate...kinda right out of the Hugh Hefner (or Triumph) world.

I'm not a prude or a religious zealot but a guy who likes women. However, there are women who use this website and this could be offensive. It certainly would be offensive to me if there were pics of guys dressed like that on freight cars on the website...yikkes, not that there is anything wrong with that (Seinfeld saying).

I know it was well-intentioned but I'm kinda surprised also, Mike, since you seem like a good guy, very customer oriented, but for someone running a new business to resort to this could make people wonder. This stuff just doesn't fly in business anymore except at Triumph and Sloggi, whatever the heck that is.

Just one person's opinion.

I don't think triumph or sloggi are the only ones out their marketing their wares who use such advertising. its all over - even here in the USA, and not just europe. what's so different from this (at least the triumph ad) compared to a weekly flyeer in the newspaper for a department store selling underwear? not much if anything. and you can find sloggi-type ads in so many magazines, including ones bought by women - after all- who is buying this stuff and why do they want it?
maybe people should think again about buying anything from Sears - SHEEESH.

Larry,

There's nothing offensive about people in underwear. There is no nudity or even a passing reference to sex. The fact that the models are beautiful women of course appeals to the men on this forum, but there are many examples of similar advertising pictures showing men in underwear. I don't find that offensive.

You should take a stroll down some of the beaches in this area. I think you would then find those pictures very tame!

Where's the point (we all know the rather "unusual" habits in the U.S. regarding nudity)? Cool

These companies advertise their stuff everywhere here, with models sometimes wearing even less; also often by the ad plates on train station platforms. biggrin

Hoever, train fans are likely more interested in seeing this: wink

Hmm...well, that got a reaction. Sheesh, are some of you still cavemen or only work in areas with only groups of men, like in engineering, where these practices have not changed? Give me a break, there is a huge difference between newspaper ads of people in underwear and exploitive pics for your personal enjoyment and excitement (even on the sides of freight cars yet...lol). That is really classy or was in the 1950s.

It is very clear to me that general advertising practices in Europe are far more liberal than those in the US. No question. Sure, you can find this stuff here but I cannot think of a major manufacturer of good reputation that would create a marketing campaign like Triumph or the others. Certainly, that is Ludwigsburg in BW, Germany not from any of the Ludwigsburgs in the US. However, even a company like Harley-Davidson also keeps it clean and more respectful.

From a more practical standpoint, if pics like those pop up on my desktop at work, because I'm checking the Forum at lunch or like now later at night, I'm not exactly thrilled being in my office with that stuff coming up. But, this is clearly my problem and may not be yours because maybe that is the practice where you work.

Also, guess none of you have daughters. Nevermind, the human culture process is such that I'm not going to be able to make you see it differently. However, it is interesting that no women have commented. Perhaps because they see it your way or because they have experienced no other world in their lives.

OK, Mike, great. Now you have all bases are covered, well, mostly covered and I'm really glad about that. You have successfully gone well beyond my expectations.

I do wish the Wendy's pic would be the one that depicted the crabby short little old lady who kept saying "Where's the beef?" That was a classic television commercial.

Hilarious, thanks for sharing. That commerical depicts one of the reasons for the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union. Anyone that liked your freight car pics won't get much out of watching the Wendy's video with the full-bodied Airbus 380 frames.

Here is the "Where's the Beef?" commerical I remember well:
