Joined: 07/08/2015(UTC) Posts: 243 Location: Wilshire		Hi I am trying to find a list of Marklin Decoders and the relevant performance including delta decoders. The problem is when you buy some Marklin locos with delta decoders they operate fairly poorly at low speed in the digital mode. I would like to identify those decoders and it appears to me a list of the worse and best would help. Does one exist on the forum already? Harry

		Ray Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

Are you looking for a list that shows the decoder type for each ref. number? 33xx and 34xx are Delta or analogue, 36xx are digital but drive as bad as Delta. 37xx introduced load regulation for standard motors. Not all 37xxx locos have load regulation, but most locos with 36xxx do. All locos with 39xxx have load regulation - some even have brushless motors (C Sine). Before buying, carefully read the Märklin product description. Note that some ref. numbers came with two or three different decoders over time, so you cannot always be sure about the decoder type just from the ref. number.

You have to search for each locomotive. Some time the same loco is coming with different motor and reversing unit regarding the year of production. The serial number on each loco after 1981 helps a lot. The letter in front is the type of the reversing unit and the decoder Here is an index which Sven (www.saebonet.com) did some years ago Märklin locomotive's serial numbers: The Märklin locomotive's serial number often starts with a letter, after this list: Letter Explanation No letter = Electro-mechanical Reversing Unit V = Electronically controlled electro-mechanical reversing unit (Vorshaltelektronik) E = Electronically controlled electro-mechanical reversing unit or an Electronic reversing unit R = 5 star propulsion, Regulated (Fünf-Sterne-Technik) D = Digital control, usually decoder type c80 or c81 H = Digital control, High performance propulsion, usually decoder type c90, c91, fx or mfx M = Delta (Mehrzugbetrieb) S = C-Sinus-Motor (not exclusive, some Sinus locomotives are reported to have H) More informations on http://www.saebonet.com/ Of course you can get help putting the question on the forum, from members who have the Loco Costas

Of course you can get help putting the question on the forum, from members who have the Loco Costas Hi Costas and all, Thanks for that list and the explanations, which are really useful. However, when buying the older locos, you will find that in some (perhaps many) cases the decoder has been upgraded. So in that case the serial number means nothing. As already explained, you have to make proper enquiry when purchasing. regards Kimball
