I just put a Loksound XL into a Märklin 5749 BR38. This lok has a wheel cam for generating a chuff. My multimeter plays a beep when connected to the cam, reliably and regularly. There are 2 cam closures per wheel revolution, right where they should be, e.g. at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position of the wheel.
However, when I connect the cam to the appropriate screw terminals on the Loksound Xl, things are not right. At speed step one, while I do I get 4 chuffs per rev, which is prototypically correct, they don't happen at the appropriate time! If the first chuff occures at 12 o'clock, the next chuff occurs at the 1:30 position, instead of 3 o'clock. Too early, by 45 degrees! The next chuff occurs at 6 o'clock , correctly, but the next chuff occurs at the 7:30 position instead of 9:00, where it should. Again, too early by 45 degrees. CV 57 is set at 0, which tells the Loksound to use the external sensor. CV 58 is set at 1, which is where the manual says to start. If I set CV58 to 2, I only get one chuff per revolution, not 4. Has anyone run into this problem before?

--Thanks,
Tom
