Hello Boys,
Hey, Who doesn't love an old beat-up V-200?
I just scored this one about a week ago for a kitbash job and I'm kinda thinkin that this lok would be better off with a paint job instead of a visit to the band saw.
I took a peek under the hood and it has two bulb headlights at each end.
I can't get the old clear tyres off. I will try a soak in a jar of laquer thinner or can it cause zinkpest to the bogie assy?

3021 is 1957 and 3921 (kit edition) is 1959.. More coming... Reading and translating Kolls Guide..

It can be a 3021.1 to a 3021.5 or a 3921.1 (same as 3021.3), 3921.2 (same as 3021.4), 3921.3 (same as 3021.5)

All of these variants have the running number V 200 006..

3021.2 untere Lüfter nicht durchbrochen (not broken lower fan)

3021.3 Zierleisten glatt (smooth mouldings)

3021.4 Zierleisten dreifach geriffelt, beidseitig 3 Stirnlampen, Fenstereinfassungen silbern (Moldings triple wrapped, on both sides 3 Headlamps, window surrounds silver)

3021.5 Zierleisten glatt (smooth mouldings)

Looking at the photos in the 2011 Koll's guide, it looks like a 3021.1 as the vents on the left and right of the two big windows are open (i.e. not filled).. I will also look in the 2015 guide when I go downstairs later.

Hi,

It is version 3021.3 from 1958-1959. It is this version as it has smooth silver linings. First version 3021.1 from 1957 has four open air vents (two per side) and those silver linings are not smooth. 3021.2 from 1957-1959 has not open air vents, but otherwise almost the same as 3021.1 (silver linings are same, not smooth). I have actually so many of these 3021.1 - 3021.3 versions that I have found even more differencies between them than Koll's lists. Lamp holders are little different in the very first version even between these two lamps per side models. Reversing units are also different. Please note that also version 3021.5 from 1960 has those smooth silver linings, but it has three lamps per side and all the lamps are on when running in both ends simultaneously, like in newer versions. As yours has two lamps per side (and in my opinion much better system = lamps are on only in the direction of travel) it is definitely version 3021.3 (1958-1959). Or 3921.3 from 1959 if it was built from a kit.

Cheers,
Janne

It´s definitely 3021.3 or 3921.3 as in the first version those air vents are open.

The best way to remove those old clear plastic traction tyres is to take a small flathead screwdriver and carefully cut them with it, remove them and replace with new rubber traction tyres. When I have bought my older 3021.1, 3021.2 and 3021.3 models I have actually looked for locos with all the original parts (clear traction tyres, big hole slider and bottom plastic parts with text "Made in Germany"). I know that these clear plastic (or were these rubber when new?) traction tyres don't have as much traction as the newer black rubber ones, but I really don't care. Original is original if they are otherwise good. Older Märklin locos were without traction tyres at all, but those things were usually very heavy weight.
