Hi all,

I have a few locos with SFCM motors that are currently digital with Delta decoders, but I would like to upgrade them. I have a couple of 60943 sets on order but the documentation I've found from Marklin is a bit vague on which locos can be converted.

The locos I want to convert are:

Br81 (29185 but similar to 3032) - according to Marklin tables this should be possible with no modification.

Br74 (30951) - I can find no information on this one

Br24 (3003) - Some Marklin sources quote this one as "Countersunk screws required for the brushplate! New models (examples: 24 061, item no. 30032) have a motor cover. These models have not yet been checked to see if they can be converted"

Br795 Railbus (3016) - This one is classed as "This model requires extra work to be converted"

Has anyone any experience of converting these models? If the conversion is too difficult I will resort to my usual trick of using a Hamo magnet with the original SCFM motor, but I would prefer the 5 pole motor.

I did 3032, 3003 and 3016 and I don't remember anything special on any of them. I may have had to cut some screws, but that would be it at most.

But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

Ray, 2 of your locos could have a 3 pole drum collector (Br 81 and Br 74 as they come from a new series of locos. the 3003 and 3016 take the SFCM motor and therefore the 60943 set is suitable.

I can't remember doing extra work on the 3016 but I'll have a look and let you know. the 3003 I think I remember the bottom left hand screw has to be a countersunk screw so the back wheel is able to move without any obstruction it could be the same with the 3016 but will check. apart from that the conversion is the same as any other.

there is no spare part list for the loco 29185

Thanks Matt and John,

I'll have to wait and see how much I have to do with the screws.

Thanks for the warning about newer locos having DCMs. These locos are definitely SFCM. I opened them up to check before ordering the motor sets.

Thanks David,

This list reassures me on the Br81 and, with reservations, the railbus.

I wonder why no-one mentions the Br74. I would have thought that the 3095 model would be one that plenty of owners would want to convert.

Some of the caveats Marklin outlines in that list have proven inaccurate to me. I had that list when I upgraded all my analog or old 6080 decoders and found many of the notes to be inaccurate. Other times a note was missing. 3001 needs the head of the lower right motor screw reduced in diameter so it will clear one of the wheels.

Screw cutting is easy. Cut it with a hacksaw and then taper and clean up the leading thread with a Dremel tool.

Ray, I've converted the ÖBB version Rh 674 (3105) with additional extras, e.g. led's front & rear, I have to minimized the led's illumination

Thanks John, that's good news!

Did you use a 5 pole motor conversion for this like the 60943? Did you have to do any other work to get the motor parts to fit?
