This post is as a result of a thread on the German Railway Society (GRS) email forum where someone was after kits for N scale signals.

Someone pointed out that Viessmann do signal kits in HO for many of their signals, obtainable in a lot of cases by suffixing the catalog number with an 'A'. He pointed at this Conrad UK page for some examples, and I was surprised to find it also appears to include replacement or additional LED plates for some models of light signals. They apparently are widely available if you go looking for them, although I didn't find them listed on Lokshop, so it may be a case of enquiring at your favourite dealer.

Another poster pointed at Schneider Modelbahn ones that are also available. Apparently these are unpainted where the Viessmann ones come pre-painted.

In both cases a fair amount of dexterity is required to assemble them, so not for the faint hearted.

Well, the 4500A + the needed 4550V "motor" is £ 29.98 (€ 29.78 on conrad.de) so it is not cheaper than a full RTR 4500 from Lokshop (€ 28.61)... Sad

Ahh. The discussion on the GRS list didn't extend to the motors ...

I haven't investigated how these signals are motored. Could a servo be used?
