Hi All

I would like to try and find a digital model of this SBB 6/6 shunting loco

SBB_CFF_FFS_Cargo_Ee_6-6_16814_(16841400072).jpg

Does anybody know who makes one

Thanks

Tim

This one was made (analogue!) by Hobbytrain/Kato in H0 scale a long, long time ago. You might be able to acquire one on the second hand market. A digital version with sound and Telex couplers was recently advertised by a dealer in Switzerland, but it might already be sold out now:

He currently has a similar diesel yard loco in stock:

Er... Confused - but you are aware of the fact that the models/locos shown in your links are completely different types (Bm 6/6 diesel locos)?

The loco in the initial posting is a heavy electric shunter Ee 6/6 II. A few of them are still mostly standing around in the Lausanne Triage marshalling yards in Switzerland.

I have now found one, but the big question - will this work with my marklin CS2 digital controller or will I have to do some work if so what work.
Thank

Hello Tim.

It depends on which decoder is installed (delta, fx, mfx, MM, DCC), or even pure analog will also work at certain level.

The most important is that the loco must be AC (wechselstrom). Original DC (gleichstrom) loco will also work if some isolation and conversion takes place.

Cheers,

Walter

The AC digital version of this model from Kato/Hobbytrain (if offered OEM) should understand at minimum Maerklin Motorola (MM).

On the face of it, it sounds like you have an AC analog loco, as this is what AC analog locos do when placed on track powered by a digital controller such as a CS2.

You would need to convert the loco to digital by installing a digital decoder in it and (possibly) converting the motor to a DC motor.

The specifics of doing this will depend on what model you actually purchased.

Thanks, I will take it into the expert and ask him to make it work with a CS2.Mellow

Hi All

I have now had my expert have e look at the loco built by Hobbytrains(kato). He is afraid to remove the
cover of the loco as he is worried about whether he would break the bodyshell.

Does anybody have expierence with taking a Hobbytrains model apart and how well made it is ?

Does it easily break, is he justified it not taking the risk, I have enclosed a PDF with the construction and method for opening the loco?

ee66 hobbytrain.pdf (1,300kb) downloaded 21 time(s).

It is equally difficult to open this loco as with all other (non-Marklin) products that (instead of simple and practical screws) use the method of clips that fit into small "holes" in the underframe. However, in this case you have the advantage (visible in the manual drawing) of only having to press together two rather strong clips underneath the loco near the couplers.

The main problem with digitizing this model will probably be the rather limited space inside for a decoder.
