I have the crocodile 3356, what do I need to convert this loco to digital.

I hope that these resources help you. Depending on what type of decoder you want to install, you may need to replace the magnet with a permanent magnet. This is included in some of the recent Maerklin conversion kits. To know which one to use, consult the diagrams in the ajckids link.

You will also need to rewire the lights, as I am pretty certain that the 3356 had the main lead connected to the reverse unit and the return was via the locomotive chassis. If you want to have flicker free lighting, you will have to rewire it so that both wires are connected to the decoder PC board.

I see that you are on Long Island. It is not that far to Katonah, where RJFTrains is based. rjftrains.com I am sure that Robert can assist you if required.

Thank you Mike, Yes my idea is to change the motor and only a decoder to convert the loco to digital, and of course the lights. I'm not interested in train sounds.
Yes I'm from Long Island, and I know Robert but he lives 3 hours from Long Island.
