Brawa and C Track - Minimum Radius 360mm

Joined: 15/12/2015(UTC) Posts: 523 Location: Maryland, Baltimore		I recently purchased a Brawa 0-10-0 BR94 switcher locomotive. When running it on my C track layout it will sometimes derail or short out in the turnouts. It has one of the silent type sliders with may be the problem with it shorting out. The loco derails on the tighter radius curves. According to the Brawa site it's designed to operated on 360 mm radius which is the minimum radius of C track. Is C track gauged tighter than normal HO standard?. I would think that if Brawa made a loco for use on 3 rail track that it should work fine on Marklin C track. Any ideas, suggestions etc. welcomed. I guess that's what I get for getting something other that the big "M". It runs nice and slow and sounds great but using the smoke unit is disappointing. I'm definitely having mixed feeling about the whole experience. Oh well, live and learn. Chuck

On the one hand they are detailed and well made, but on the other hand they don't always behave perfectly on Marklin track. In your case the 0-10-0 wheel arrangement is rather "pushing the envelope" on 360mm radius track. Even my Marklin Br94s complain slightly when negotiating my R1 radius curves, but at least they don't derail. I used to be more keen on buying Brawa steamers as they look so good, but recent Marklin items have been as good or better and are actually cheaper.

I know that I have these smaller curves on my layout and only purchased the Brawa version over the ESU version because of it be able to run on the smaller radius. I somehow think I was deceived by Brawa as silly as that sounds. It's really Marklin's fault because IF they made a small tank switcher with sound & smoke I would have bought that instead. (How's that for reasoning. ) Chuck

One of my criticisms of Marklin's way of presenting models is that they don't produce the different era versions at the same time. Eventually I'm sure we'll see all the variants of the Br94, but it would be nice if you had the choice from day one. I have the Era I T16 with sound (37166), and the Era III Br94 without sound (37165). I guess you would want the one in between!
