Hi all.

I've been waiting for my MTH F7s since May 2014, but now it seems like they're almost there. MTH has been delaying production over and over again, and the Santa Fe F7s are the last of the litter. Oh well ...

A five-unit F7 consist will be great, but I have no cars for it to pull. My dream is the 1956 Budd hi-level coaches for the El Capitan, but they are not available on the market, so I have considered how to make a small-series production of these cars.

The hi-level coaches have the same profile, so for a small volume production an aluminium extrusion would be ideal.
I've then tinkered with a free 3D CAD program and the result is shown in the pictures below. The same profile is used for all 3 types of coaches, but the milling of the windows etc. differs between the types. Doors, window frames, truck and whatnot can be made as 3D prints.
The models you see are designed exactly to 1:32 scale.

My questions are now:
  1. Is there any interest at all for such cars?
  2. To keep the price down, would a kit be interesting?
  3. To keep the price down, would cars without interior be interesting? The interior could be purchased and mounted separately.
  4. What would the maximum price be for a ready to run model with interior?

Best regards
Jens

The project now has its own homepage:

Incidently, today - July 8th 2016 - is the 60th anniversary of the hi-level El Capitan ThumpUp
