Hi Everyone,

I have a 49960 measurement car that operates correctly on my layout, however, when I take it to a friends layout, I can't seem to get it to work. My layout has a CS2, my friends layout has an EcoS as well as a CS2. I've placed the 49960 on his programming track using both the EcoS and the CS2, but the functions on the wagon are not working. Does anyone have any ideas to resolve this problem?

Regards
Greg

I have the 49960 and eCos and it works fine.. You need to select old Marklin protocol.. If you do a search you will find a previous discussion about this a few months a go.. Sometime last year maybe.. Search for 49960 posted by xxup..

Thanks Adrian for the tip.

How do I know that the ECoS has installed the 49960 ? I'm new to the ECoS having used the CS2 for many years. I've noticed that the addresses on the ECoS are 4 digit whereas with the CS2 they range from 1 to 80. On the CS2 the address is 75 - do I put this address into the ECoS ? Or is there another way of entering the 49960 into the ECoS ?

Only mfX/M4 and some versions of DCC are automatically loaded into the eCOS. Some models are in the eCOS database - I am not in the Train Room at the moment so I can't tell you the specific steps to manually add a loco on the eCOS. If no one else has answered by tomorrow morning, I will go downstairs and type up the steps for adding a 49960 into the eCOS for you. It's bedtime for me now.

When using the 49960 with an ECoS, you have to use a special version of the old Motorola protocol: "Motorola fx 14".
See section 7.1.1.1 of the ECoS manual.

Yes, that coach is the last item I am aware of that used the original Marklin accessory protocol, same as the 4998 and 4999 coaches. It remains a mystery why Marklin did that as the MM2 protocol was well established by then.

Thanks Tom, I'll give it a try tomorrow when I visit my friend.

Just to reinforce Tom's message. Here is the screenshot from my eCOS. The decoder settings are next to the center of the left hand speed dial.

Thanks Adrian,

This is off topic, but how do you publish the screen shot like you have? And I need to know ALL the steps as I'm a "Drongo".

Open your browser and type in the IP address of the eCOS, then select something like "show display in a browser" from somewhere near the bottom of the menu. (Sorry I am upstairs again..) Blushing Then you select "save the screen" at the underneath the resulting display. This works in both the colour and mono eCos versions.

Note: Sometimes you need to activate Java to get this to work. This works in both the colour and mono eCos versions.

I've been away with the granddaughters (school holidays) in Canberra and I'm sorry for my delayed response.

Thanks Adrian for letting me know that Tom also helped with this matter. Many times in the past Tom has given me some fantastic advice - thanks again, Tom, you're a gem. Cool Cool Cool
