These are obviously not the same size in the photo. Just stick a ruler on the screen and check it yourself (width and length). Looks to me like the one on top that appears smaller is actually sitting further away. This could be done on a wooden staircase or cabinet, etc., with the smaller top piece sitiing on the lower surface further from the camera.

The problem is he puts the left hand ends in line on the join., and then because the outer radius of one is against the inner radius of the other it looks as though it is shorter.

If the left hand end of the outer radius of both pieces was in vertical line in the picture then the pieces would look the same size as the RH ends would be in line.

Grab a couple of pieces of track and try it.

The delights of wide angle lenses and careful positioning, mine is not such a wide angle and look at the results, the two are 5100.
