Marklin has the BR-61 in a gray finish and they indicate that it's an Era III loco.

Wouldn't the gray paint been applied during the war years?

After the end of the war it took a few years to establish the Deutsche Bundesbahn. And it took a few years more to repaint all locos that still had war-time liveries.

Yes, at that time the loco still had the war-time livery. It had lost the automatic couplers. Probably it also lost parts of the streamlining. And most likely it looked very bad, not nice and new as the model.

AFAIK it was used for local passenger trains at that time.

Tom, do you think that this paint scheme reflects Era II and then into Era III?

And...I agree that the only time it would have looked nice and new was when it was nice and new with the blue/cream paint.

Era II ends 1950 and era III starts 1945 - so this loco is both era II and era III.

I think she looked nice with the fresh black dark grey paint - whenever she received it.

I guess it was dark grey (some sources say black).
