All of you know for sure the "holz vitrine" that comes with some Märklin especial loco editions such as Bellingrodt et al...Well, I wanted to purchase one but they come in very expensive at 90-100 euros shipping included.
So I decided to give it a try and build my own one; a wooden box from Moet Chandon champagne, some painting, a led strip, a metacrilate piece, a piece of C track and a nice b/w picture as a background.
Total cost was less than 30 euros

Hope you like it
Regards
Carlos

You can get champagne that cheap ??? Scared Scared Scared

That is a great looking display cabinet. I am envious of the picture you put in the back. Really suits it.

Excellent job.

Thanks a lot Alan.
I don't drink alcohol; the box was around my parent's house so it was free for me.

its always great to see members take their own initiative to make things and this one is no exception and it looks fantastic, what a show piece, these type of frames you see in art galleries, instead of Rembrandt and Van Dyke's paintings you have this in your hallway.

congratulations (another member who thinks outside the box)

regards.,

Awesome work... I've finally found a use for the wooden audio cassette storage boxes I have from the 1990's ... ripping out the internal cassette support slats and gluing in larger scale framing to put track on for lok and car storage.
FullSizeRender.jpg

I've got some much bigger ones than this (3x as high and about 2x wide)... to act as car storage..... all this till I get the layout built where the stuff will live.
But then this hobby is a disease and I'm sure I'll end up with more than I'll want to run on the main layout, such as seasonal trains, so these displays will be useful going forward.

update - one mistake I now recognize, I will not be easily able to screw down the c-track as getting a screwdriver into that low profile space will require a right-angle ratcheting screw driver. Already on order, as well as the Philips 000 size tip...

I never had those cassette storage boxes but they look very appropiate for the task. Great idea!
